C-160 need to be replaced, essentially Airlifting capabilities of the Air Force need to be expanded greatly (medium and heavy) so I would like to know how they intend to do this without us being able to order and buy new C-130s, A400M as well as any C-17s.

The Airlift corps is stretched to its limits, our A400M needs to already undergo heavy maintenance, the C-160 is falling apart and the C-130 themselves are aging but we still have no answer by Mr. Demir how they intend to replace and expand the fleet.

We know that the US won’t sell Turkey any C-130 and C-17 for various reason and the French will veto the sale of further A400M as they are used extensively to help Libya and Azerbaijan.

So where do we go if not for Ukrainian hulls? They can at least offer us C-160 replacements and an equal to the A400M with the AN-178 and AN-188. I don’t see another path unless they can convince the Americans and French which is very improbable.

Nah, that's a political decision. Just like they chose an old British FAC design while Turkey has more modern and better ones.

Turkey is UCAV technology transfer to Ukraine. I think that developed the technology transferred from Turkey to Ukraine's recent introduction of the UCAV.

Ukraine sides with US over Chinese takeover of engine company​


The dispute over the ownership of Ukrainian helicopter and jet engine manufacturer Motor Sich seems to have come to an end after Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sided with the US instead of China.

The case, which according to experts has become a political issue between the two superpowers, could cool the otherwise warm relationship between Ukraine and China, and prevent China from advancing its engine technology in helicopters and jet planes.

“The US sees China’s influence in Ukraine and the purchase of the company as a threat,” says Nan Tian, a senior researcher at the Arms and Military Expenditure Programme at Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
He tells Euronews: “It is about power politics from the US perspective, and the engines are just one concern. The US wants to stop China from moving too much to the West.”

China circling Motor Sich​

Zelenskyy decided to place three-year sanctions on four Chinese companies said to be close to the Chinese leadership, which started to purchase shares in Motor Sich back in 2015.

His security service, the SBU, then broke up a meeting between Chinese and Ukrainian investors, claiming ownership of the Ukrainian engine manufacturer this week.


“The issue (about ownership of Motor Sich) is not about China. The issue is not even how Motor Sich’s shares were bought under the former President, under Poroshenko. The issue is that we do not have the right to sell a controlling stake in the management of strategic defence enterprises of Ukraine to any country…during my presidency, this will not be the case,” said Zelenskyy in an interview with HBO.

Zelenskyy’s decision came under pressure from the US, which fears the Chinese purchase of Motor Sich would advance its military capabilities. In 2019, then-US National Security Advisor John Bolton visited Ukraine and had several meetings where Motor Sich is said to have been discussed.

A few weeks ago, the then US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross also classified Skyrizon, the major Chinese investor company in Motor Sich, as prohibited military end-users.

“Skyrizon — a Chinese state-owned company — and its push to acquire and indigenise foreign military technologies pose a significant threat to US national security and foreign policy interests,” said Ross, according to the Ukrainian business site UBN.

The Ukrainian SBU says that they are blocking the deal because China has a military helicopter production contract with Russia and, therefore, could share the engine technology with Russia, which annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014 and later supported separatists in war in eastern Ukraine.

Skyrizon said in a statement that Ukraine’s “actions are a barbaric robbery and a serious violation of the legal rights and interests of Chinese companies operating abroad, an unprecedented disrespect for the principles and rules of international trade.”

Skyrizon is suing Ukraine for $3.5 billion for cancelling the deal.

Changing geopolitical equation​

The story about Motor Sich began in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea and the war between Ukraine, and the Russian-backed separatists broke out in Ukraine's east.

Suddenly, Motor Sich was, due to the conflict, unable to sell its engines to Russia and was instead facing economic problems. China was looking to advance its engines for its army combat helicopters and was, therefore, interested in Motor Sich. Ukraine was producing a lot of the military hardware for the Soviet Union during the Cold War and still had appealing technology. Ukraine is still the 12th largest weapons exporter in the world, according to SIPRI, and it all made Ukraine an interesting place for China.

Skyrizon, with other investors, secured a majority of the shares around 2017.

“Russia was not at all interested in providing the assets and technical support that Ukraine could offer the Chinese. The initiative by the PLA (China's People's Liberation Army) to engage Ukrainian industry goes back to the early 1990s. For the simple reason that it was not in Russia’s interest to provide these capabilities to Beijing,” said a leading Ukraine defence industrial director, according to the Middle East Institute.

Wonder what's happened to Motor Sich?
Ivchenko progress is a design company. It can not produce anything. It designs an engine and Motor Sich produces it. As an analogy :
Motor Sich = TEI
Ivchenko Progress = TR Motor
In reality, to date, since the break up of the Soviets, there has been no brand new engines produced by Motor Sich. This means, whatever designs Ivchenko Progress has been making has not materialised in to new engines. They have lost a lot of their technical staff. They can still produce old tech engines. But nothing new.
Their tech is old. But they can manufacture complete turbofan engines from scratch.
We have access to modern tech. Our production Expertise is at it’s infancy.
So there is a lot of common ground on which a lot of new things can be built if forces are joined.

Personal comment:
They are telling half by half production for the first corvette,which claim first ship's hull will be built in Turkey and equipped in Ukraine by Turkish personnel.

This is technically impossible to happen for several reasons, unless the odessa shipyard will be flooded with Turkish engineers and technicians for the remaining hulls as well:
1- Odessa shipyards capabilities
2- in such projects at least half of the ships or the first two are built and equipped in the home country to proeprly train the personnel of the operator, it would also adversely affect Turkish personnel and limit capabilities to transfer the knowledge.
3-Shipyard has limited capabilities for construction, yet and this also applies for the equipping.
4-Neither shipyard or the Ukraine has enough engineers or technicians of the expertize to built and equip the remaining hulls on their own, so it probably will be Turkish subcontractors relocated from Turkey to do the job and how could it help for a ToT scheme?. If 2 ships are completed in Turkey it would provide a span for their training.

Project has started by 50:50 of first batch (2-3 hulls in Turkey, 2-3 hulls in Ukraine), then Ukrainian officials claimed 1 hull in Turkey 3-4 hulls in Ukraine, now same people are claiming 1st ship to be built by 50:50 and the rest in Ukraine.

I might be misunderstanding the translation as well and 50:50 part may be applying to entire project.

Corvette production might have started in first week of April (according to a RfP file i have seen) in a private shipyard.
The shipyard might be a little surprising.
Turkish personnel will also be working in Ukraine for construction/assembly/integration in most of the jobs. System Integration of 1st and 2nd vessel will be carried out by Turkish personnel in Ukraine.
Dimensions are exactly same as Ada-Class, if the data on RfP is accurate or an estimation.
Contract is only made for the first ship so far.
