Ukrainian crews of the future three patrol boats of the Island Navy arrived in Baltimore (Maryland, USA) for a 10-week training course.

At the airport, the Ukrainian sailors were met by embassy staff, Defense Attaché Major General Borys Kremenetsky and Naval Attaché Captain 1st Rank Serhiy Fedorchuk, representatives of the US Coast Guard and the local Ukrainian diaspora.
Three Island-type boats, which will be handed over to Ukraine this year from the US Coast Guard reserve. will have American weapons and equipment.
Earlier, the news agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that during the training, Ukrainian crews will work on boats during exits in the Chesapeake Bay, learn to operate the main engines, diesel generators and auxiliary systems. In practice, the work of onboard systems, navigation, communication and other boat equipment and technical means of American production will be checked.
It was also previously reported that the Ukrainian Navy will receive former US Coast Guard boats: USCGC Ocracoke (WPB-1307), Washington (WPB-1331) and Kiska (WPB-1336), which will arrive in Ukraine during the first half of 2021.
The patrol boat USCGC Ocracoke (WPB-1307) was enlisted in the US BOHR on June 9, 1989. Port of Registry - Portman, Maine.
The USCGC Washington (WPB-1331) was transferred to the US BOHR on June 15, 1990. He served in the western Pacific near Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
The USCGC Kiska (WPB 1336) was incorporated into the US Coast Guard in 1990. He served in the western Pacific. Port of residence - Santa Rita, Guam.
It will be recalled that in 2018, the former BOHR USCGC Cushing (WPB-1321) and Drummond (WPB1323), which had been in service since 1988, were transferred to Ukraine .
Island-class boats were built by the Bollinger Shipyards at Lockport, Louisiana from 1985 to 1992 in 49 units (board numbers WPB 1301 - WPB 1349). They have a total displacement of 168 tons, a length of 34 m, a steel body and an aluminum superstructure. Dual-axle diesel power plant with a capacity of 6200 hp provides a speed of up to 29.5 knots. The crew is 16 people, autonomy - 5 days. The boats are equipped with a motor boat.
The standard American armament consists of a 25-mm Mk 38 Mod 0 Bushmaster automatic artillery installation and two 12.7-mm M2HB machine guns, AN / SPS-73 radar. It has not yet been officially announced what weapons the boats transferred to Ukraine will receive.
