The chief designer of Ukraine’s Scientific and Production Complex Iskra has disclosed that the United States had recently signed a contract for a radar system.
The state-owned enterprise Iskra Research and Production Complex is a leading developer and manufacturer of ground-based radar equipment for Ukraine's defense complex. Today, Iskra is a design bureau and an electrical engineering plant united by a single Iskra brand. The success of the enterprise is due to the high scientific potential of developers and rich experience of production, application of advanced technologies in combination with the fulfilled system of quality and reliability of production, a full complex of guarantee and service services of the made equipment.
VIC-PRIME MINISTER OLEH URUSSKY DURING VISIT TO ISKRA
KP "Iskra" is an active participant in military-technical cooperation of Ukraine with other countries, which allowed the company to gain invaluable experience in carrying out activities on the world market, to increase the external competitiveness of the enterprise. The company continues to create and mass-produce world-class radars. Iskra invests in the development and creation of new equipment, thus investing in the future. The editorial board of the Defense Industrial Courier news agency asked Dmytro Semenov, chief designer of Iskra's survey radars, about promising developments and achievements in the market.
MODULE ANTENNA-HARDWARE RADAR 90K6E
Dmytro Serhiiovych, Iskra is one of the most powerful and successful enterprises of Ukroboronprom. Tell us about your products, what is their competitiveness, market advantages?
Successful development and manufacture of radar equipment requires qualified engineering personnel and we have such specialists. Our engineers, firstly, have a deep understanding of the theory of construction of radar systems, and, secondly, have many years of experience in putting ideas into practice. Apparently, we can talk about the Zaporozhye school of radar, which was formed at our company in cooperation with the leading scientific institutions of Ukraine in this field. First of all, it is the National University "Zaporizhzhya Polytechnic", Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, Kharkiv National University of the Air Force and others. The very implementation of new ideas in the "iron" allows you to produce products that are in demand on the world market.
How can you comment on the level of the company's products? Are they able to compete with foreign stations?
Of course, the radar stations of our company are competitive. Our company's portfolio includes "budget" solutions for customers seeking to upgrade

Which radar station is the flagship of Iskra, and what is its highlight, if they can be compared at all?
The most promising product among survey radars is the product 90K6E. This radar contains modern technical solutions for the digital formation of the antenna pattern and the latest algorithms for processing radar signals. Structurally, the radar is built on a modular principle, which allows you to easily adapt to the specific requirements of a particular customer. But Iskra develops and manufactures not only reconnaissance radars, the main task of which is to detect air objects. In the world market there is a significant demand for counter-battery radars, which allow to determine the coordinates of the firing positions of enemy artillery and tactical missiles, as well as to adjust the fire of friendly artillery and missile units. Our company has experience in developing and manufacturing such radars. My colleague Oleksiy Zalevsky, the chief designer of counter-battery and multifunctional radars, is in charge of this work. In 2019, the 1L220UK counter-battery radar successfully passed state tests and was adopted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We are ready to supply 1L220E counter-battery radar for foreign partners.
What new products of Iskra are being developed? What are the areas of design work and development plans of the enterprise? Is there any reason to talk about the introduction of new technologies at the enterprise?
We try not to stand still and constantly improve both the latest models and upgrade the previous generation of radars. Thus, the results of work on the development of new digital signal processing for radars 80K6 and 90K6E were implemented during the modernization of radar 19Zh6, which significantly improved its performance. We carry out research and development work to find technical solutions that will increase the efficiency of our radars in identifying modern and promising targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles and targets made using stealth technologies.
What achievements have been achieved this year?
New stations, systems, maybe modernization? This year our company produced a prototype of a promising radar 80K6KS1. The main purpose of the station is to detect, monitor and measure the three coordinates of air objects and their speed in the anti-aircraft missile system. Station 80K6KS1 was created for combat use as part of the divisions of anti-aircraft missile forces of the air defense. The company's specialists have successfully completed the preliminary tests of the prototype, and state tests will take place in the near future.
STATION REB R-330UM "MANDAT-B1E"
Iskra has mastered the uncharacteristic production of electronic warfare systems, in particular the R-330UM "Mandate B1E". The first samples have already been delivered to the troops. What's new in this area?
Iskra is preparing for the development of design documentation for the modernized radio interference station in accordance with the needs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is planned to form a station on the basis of one transport unit with advanced functionality and operation in the extended frequency range. The station will provide the creation of targeted by frequency and time radio interference, search, listening, analysis and recording the characteristics of the detected means of radio communication, including means of communication with HRD. The implementation of this project will provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with EW tools that are in no way inferior to the best foreign models, and in some respects surpass them. Currently, the company is working to approve the tactical and technical task for the DCR and prepare a contract for the development of design documentation and production of the first prototype. Sensing the need of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for modern means of radio technical intelligence, we also formed our vision for the development of this area. We propose to open a "Resident" recreation center, during which a modern radio technical intelligence station will be created, which will significantly exceed the technical capabilities of the well-known but obsolete "Kolchuga". We have prepared technical and price proposals for the opening of this DCR. The proposals were duly executed and submitted to the relevant structures of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. We now expect further steps from the Ministry of Defense.
