There were lots of things going on between Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant. They are from the same political party, Likud, but they are different. The rift started to be seen publicly after Gallant made statement not in favor of Netanyahu’s judicial reform that would end the independency of the judiciary. Netanyahu known for his alleged corruption, so understandable why he want to end independent judiciary.
Netanyahu fired him from Minister of Defense position led protesters against Netanyahu to protest more against the move. Didn’t wanted to took the risk, Bibi then not fired Gallant.
Ben Gvir that seen as the far-right face of the government doesn’t like Gallant, but Bibi relies more on the far-righters for his own safety, to get as much support as he can on the parliament, because Prime Minister position is given by the parliament and President (honestly, President just like rubber stamp).
After October 7th, the ‘war cabinet’ announced. Benny Gantz, one of the opposition, announced he join the government. For sure there would be lots of meetings about Gaza, but what happened, animosity between Gallant and Netanyahu not yet ended. There was time when Gallant was not welcomed in the meeting because he brought his civilian staff with him, which people said that Gallant was already officially told about this, but the memo late to be given to him. An hour later he joined the meeting.
Not long ago, Gallant publicly announced that he agree to present new military draft law that exempt Haredi yeshiva students from conscription if all members of the government agree with this. In Israeli politics, this matter quite divisive, more socially progressive or liberal part of Israel are against it, but Netanyahu’s far-right friends are for it. Benny Gantz and his parliamentary coalition who are socially more progressive for sure against the bill, Gallant unofficially gave veto power to Gantz and no progress on the proposed law.
Few days after, Gantz went to US without permission from Netanyahu. He met senior US officials there, a gesture that showed that he care nothing about Netanyahu and Netanyahu can’t doing anything about it, fear he would open the floodgates of protest.
