Dont they have any preconditions in their constitution regarding who can be a president?
Like...not someone who waged war on the government?

A good question. Maybe @Captain LY could answer this and give us a little bit of explanation around what is going on.

The Parliament of Tobruk now is the one who makes the laws of candidacy and elections, and who is allowed to run for office or not. This failure is the result of the Berlin Agreement when we gave this dead body a chance to return to life after it was isolated from the world and no one recognized it.

After we were victorious and in the position of the strongest, it was necessary to complete the course of the war and take control of Sirte and the oil fields. But instead We are now at their mercy.

Now they are controlling us and we are powerless. At some point we got betrayed. Who, where and when exactly, I do not know, but it is certain that there was betrayal and many concessions from GNA

Haftar gets this much support because Eastern Libyans hate Turks.

They see Tripoli and Mistrata as the place full of Turks.

While most Turks who live in Libya consider themselves Libyan with Turkish heritage they are still part of the country but nope the Eastern Libyans want to wipe them out.

There is racial reasons why Benghazi opposes Tripoli. Haftar still gets enormous support from Eastern Libya.

Eastern Libya is mostly Arab right?

While Western Libya is mostly Amazigh and Turk?
Yes, correct .
Most of the east are Arabs and adhere to their Arabism tightly and hates everyone else who's not arab

And The West is a mixture of Berbers,
And a few group of Arabs
and The rest of the population is of Turkish origin

and the south is mix of Tubu and Tuareg people and few arabs

Libya’s Presidency Council calls for stronger relations with Russia

The head of Libya’s Presidency Council, Mohammad Menfi, has called for strengthening relations between Libya and Russia.

This came during a meeting Menfi held late Friday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency Council, Menfi highlighted the importance of Moscow's role in the success of Libya’s political process.

It said Lavrov underlined the need for the simultaneous withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya as well as advancing reconciliation efforts to ensure that elections are held on time.

The top Russian diplomat also praised the Presidency Council for leading national reconciliation in Libya.

"Lavrov praised the steps taken recently by the council to release a number of prisoners within the framework of the national reconciliation process,” the statement said.

Tension has risen in Libya between the Libyan parliament, the High Council of State, and the unity government over electoral powers and laws.

On Tuesday, parliament withdrew confidence from the unity government of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, a move that threatens plans to timely hold the country’s parliamentary and presidential elections.

Head of Libya’s High Council of State, Khalid Al-Mishri, slammed the move, saying the government will continue its work until the country’s elections slated for Dec. 24.

Pan Arabism has been a disaster for the Magreb.

Crazy how Pan Arabism has made the Arabs and Amazighs hate each other so much. Every North African Arab has an Amazigh ancestor while an Amazigh has an Arab ancestor.

Retarded how it pitted both groups against each other.

Youth leader urging elections kidnapped in Libya's capital

Ayouth leader was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen after calling for demonstrations in support of Libya's scheduled December elections, the U.N. said.

Imad al-Harathi, head of the North African country's National Youth League, "was reportedly abducted by unknown armed men from his NYL office in Tripoli on 26 September," the U.N. Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said in a statement late Tuesday.

The abduction of the head of the NYL, a state-linked body, followed "his call for peaceful demonstrations in support of elections on 24 December. His whereabouts remain unknown," the U.N. mission added.

UNSMIL stressed the importance of the freedom of expression and assembly and called for Harathi's "immediate release and for a prompt and thorough investigation into his abduction."

Libya has sought to emerge from a decade of chaos since the 2011 fall of Moammar Gadhafi's regime, a period marked by bloody violence involving militias, foreign fighters and terrorist groups.

After the end of fighting in mid-2020, a unified transitional government was formed earlier this year under U.N. auspices, with the aim of leading the country to elections scheduled for Dec. 24.

Despite political progress in recent months, the security situation in the oil-rich country remains precarious.

In June, a representative of the Red Crescent Society in Libya was abducted by unknown assailants in the east, a region under the de facto control of putschist Gen. Khalifa Haftar where kidnappings and assassinations are frequent.

In mid-August, a Libyan government official was released two weeks after he was kidnapped in Tripoli by unidentified gunmen.
