Casual Discussion Where will you go after lockdowns are over and flight tickets don't cost an organ? I am putting in my top 5 that I have visited before.

Name your top 5 cities/countries you will revisit once lockdowns are over (Can not be the country of your residence or where your background is from and must be a country you have actually visited before)

My top 5 that I would revisit would be.

Nice - France (Great in the summer months if you like to drink and chill).
Malta - Very underrated holiday destination, if you like history, it is a must visit. Also great if you are on a budget.
Singapore - Has a bit of everything, you have shopping, nightlife, bars, attractions, nature, beaches and great weather.
Rhodes - Greece - Much like Malta, if you like medieval history, it is a must visit. Also great if you are on a budget.
Shanghai - China - Feels like you are on a different planet, endless places to explore if you have the money.

I have visited some european and asian countries, but in these times, I'd rather spend my money in Turkey.

Also there are so many places in Turkey I haven't seen yet.

I added this because if I didn't I would literally pick all the western coastal cities of Turkey as my full list lol

London - UK: Enjoyed my time there
Khan Tengri (mountain) - Kazakhstan/Kyrgyzstan: Would love to at least see it, if not climb it. It has great significance in Turkic mythology
Dolomites (mountain range) - Italy: In my opinion it's the most beautiful place on earth
Antarctica or the somewhere in the Arctic: I would love to see an Aurora in real life. They may not be as vivid as they are in photos or videos, but still.
Multiple cities - USA: I want to see how different it is to Australia. It's crazy how many large cities there are over there. Here we have a few large coastal cities. Over there, every state has a large city or even multiple large cities.

I don’t really have any plans for visiting anything anytime soon because I am broke as fook but I have some dream trips that I want to make someday:

1. South Africa and especially Cape Town are a dream destination for me. Let’s hope that until I have enough time and money to ever visit it it won’t be turned into a Zimbabwe 2.0.

2. The Maghreb and especially Algeria- Algeria is a hidden gem of the Mediterranean that is still closed off for the foreign tourists. They have a very strict visa policy and that stops their tourism from developing. They have amazing coast and mountains with beautiful cities and ancient Roman ruins and a lot of Arab, Berber, Ottoman and French architecture+ much to explore in the Sahara too.

3. Central Asian tour of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan- amazing ancient cities like Khiva, Samarqand and Bukhara and some great new ones like Astana, Almaty and Tashkent. Also really want to visit the amazing steppes and mountains that ancient nomad warriors called home.

4. Latin America tour- always have been fascinated by the Aztecs and Mexico by the Andes and Machu Picchu by Ecuador and Colombia by Argentina, Chile and Patagonia, by Uruguay and Brazil... I love Latin America.

5. Many other places: Bosnia and the Western Balkans, the Caucasus, Ukraine, Spain, Italy etc. Those are easier to visit so I put them on last place.

I will do reverse way, a countdown kinda.

There's lotta places I'd like to be soon (revisiting), meeting (new and old ) friends and having some fun etc (esp in US and Europe but some places Ive never been before so I guess they dont count)...but 2021 is just gonna be a messed up year for me time-wise coz of 2020 being a real messed up year and all kind of stuff getting delayed and compressed for next year....anyway here goes:

5. Singapore...TBH probably the only one I'm going to do in 2021 given this increasing workload I'm up against (because of corona effect on my company letting go of some very valuable teammates) and gonna be for a while. I got to take care of some personal family matters in SG so I will have to make time for it. There will be time for some good fun as well hopefully...hop across border to malaysia probably too.

4. Tokyo/Japan...might be able to squeeze this one in with SG...but it will be work related only...simply not much time for anything else. Chances are very slim though, maybe 10% chance given bigger priorities at work. Was a great fun city that I will have to visit more leisurely again at some point.

3. Manila/PH...have a good pinoy buddy there (from way back in high school, he married another HS friend I know too) thats been pressing me to visit again for last 5 or so years....its a fun city with some really nice folks and there are places up north and islands all around that he wants to road trip/boat trip on with cpl other buds. Its very unlikely though I'll do it 2021 or even 2022...but maybe after.

2. HK, city of my childhood, I need to totally revisit and see how lot of places and folks I know have changed...its been quite a while. Its such a wonderful city and I have only nostalgia for it now. Chances of me actually visiting it in the near or mid future (or even at all again) are close to zero though, given I've most likely made some CCP controlfreak shitlist by now (I was a very naughty boy to them lately and they have clamped down on friends I know there that did way less) and I don't want to risk it. They g-damned ruined the once great city, now its a stale grey orwellian #@$#@... thanks for nothing chicoms.

=====

1. A song captures it for me:

The one and only Paradise city (or sin city?) for me (wonder if anyone can guess it)....the wildest fun city in existence on Earth that I have come across, and its not even close....nothing will ever exceed it I am sure of that.

Great food, entertainment, and simply the best friendliest people overall I have ever come across (esp once you go past the city and tourist traps to the country and more random areas)....good open-minded/conservative balance among the local's attitude....they aren't too rich, they aren't too poor....a good sweetspot of existence overall. You gotta go there to know though, brochures and media lie and scandalise a lot of stuff that ppl assume and stereotype.

Beautiful places to go in every direction from the city too on road trip, esp by motorbike....just decide if you want hills, river valleys or beaches. Likely the place I live out my 40s and maybe retirement afterwards.

Wont have time for it for quite some time, likely couple years or more...

@Nilgiri , do you mean Rio de Janeiro? 😂

Or maybe Medellin/Bogota?

Haha....I been to Rio, but its too unsafe man.

Colombia, forget about it haha.

In South America, I wanna visit Chile and Peru, I havent seen that west coast area...I got a bud in Chile that I gotta pay a visit too...he owes me a bunch from pretty big tab he ran with me in 1st year too and conveniently never got to....but I got his mandolin as collateral too. He's a good guy though.

Nah city I speak of follows the trend of the previous 4...all same continent hehe.

Tourist traps...and then other kinda traps :p There, now it should be obvious....

LOL... got it. 😁

I have to visit it too...

Southeast Asia and South Asia are quite fascinating to me too but they are way too chaotic and different for my taste.

We all should know where this is, it would probably be on my list if I didn't have a partner haha

Bangkok. :p

Its very partner and family-friendly too, just need to plan + research the visit accordingly. There is lot of cultural stuff and scenic spots etc.

There are still places where l want to go but getting there is a problem. So l need a ride that can take me there in isolation and in safety. Even to places where no mortal has been. l don't mean teleportation, l mean a flying machine which l can drive myself and land anywhere. l know l am dreaming, that means l am getting closer to it. Start dreaming.

For me nothing that takes longer than 8 hour flight from UK which conveniently includes Pakistan but leaves everything east as beyond the pale for me. So in no particular order -

  • Istanbul [again]
  • Kyiv - Just the curiousity
  • Barcelona - there is a small thriving Pakistani community there and I want to take a closer look how they evolved.
  • Rome
  • Tunis
  • Berlin

Depends by which measure. By developing world standand, yes. By British standards, no. But probably upper middle class and well off. This class includes lawyers, doctors, senior civil service, senior military and successful small scale business owners.

And I would love to do the Levant including the Fertile Crescent - cradle of human civilization. Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel [I exclude Arabian peninsula from this category] but shame about the politicial chaos there.
