Major Defect found on South Korean Submarine

"According to a report submitted by People Power Party National Assembly Member Shin Wonsik major defects have been found on all nine of the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN)’s Son Won-il class"
How credible is this report? Could it be the reason for the cancellation of the South Korean submarine contract?

How many Mica vls will be fitted on Bung Tomo? 12 like on the REM?
MICA is a huge improvement of air defence to our Navy, for the first time we are introduced to air defence VLS via REM Class and later Bung Tomo Class but the range and quantity which bothers me

the range is enough i think for a corvette (or light frigate) for doing limited air defence task. but yeah, the quantity is also bother me. but maybe if the "population" of a ship that use MICA VLS are increasing, maybe they should cosinder to buy more missiles tho

Old post but what i've heard TKMS offered Indonesia to conduct technical audit on existing 3 DSME 1400 Class aside from offering Type-209/1400 Mod Class and Type-214 Class for our needs

Aside from 2 REM and later 3 Bung Tomo Class, idk about Diponegoro Class. There are talks to upgrade them, one of YouTube channel did talk about it and i've posted it here. Upgrade packages from Damen itself include 8 MICA VL.

Damen Schelde designs offer flexibility of modular ships building and that includes SIGMA 9113. You can look back behind to my posting about Damen Schelde latest model of SIGMA 9113 with VLS and modular hull adds

The Parchims are hopeless effort I concur. It's neither a good ASW platform and more KCR/PC-60 would have been better than wasting money on ex-WarPac junk.

Let's just hope whatever modernization doesn't involve all 14 hulls but limited yo just a few most operationally ready hulls.

Parchims and Ex-Korean Pohangs are a waste of time, money and effort. Pretty much summing-up Indonesian defense procurement model.
Possibly someone is repeating the wrong path they followed in the beginning of KCR-60, ignoring what they need the most at the coarse, but obsessing over some small details.

Meanwhile there are two indigineous OPV designs under construction by a private shipyard, PAL keeps offering their OPV and KCR+ designs to some countries, how come they can't create one single and rather affordable design to replace Parchim class rapidly, while there are vast amount of compact sonar systems are available in market to equip them.

Not even talking about mothership - USV combo that will dominate ASW business in the next decade and that they have been offered such a system by a friendly country and preferred to ignore?

Still fooled by this 'modular' word? You can literally extend any ship from the mid, this is a common application going on since steel was introduced in shipbuilding. And not really a good idea to install a midship block to a military ship. The costs of doing this in terms of money, brings a remarkable cost that does not introduce anything; in time it doesn't worth anything.

VL MICA launchers occupy 4~ meters, they would protrude 1-1.25 out from the deck and occupy one deck level to install the launcher. In fact they will need to cut and rebuild the opening, cancel accodation area under the deck - behind the main gun and install it.

Not Seawolf?

I personally not bothered much about the missile range of MICA on REM and soon to be TOM its just the right missile for self defence(mainly), but for bigger ships that have roles to provide protection for the whole flotilla or fleet then longer range missile also needed.
TOM with MICA have AAW capability but her roles is not mainly geared towards that aspect, just a multirole warship not a dedicated AAW.

The quantity tho, I hope we won't be stingy on this.

Seawolf VL were empty when we bought them from UK.

Off the topic Idk how to explain this but alot of things don't make sense in Indonesia yet as a broker/mediator it's no my job to question the sanity or whether the project itself rationale enough, my job is to ensure the fee our group large enough for each members, Damen 9113 VL isn't part of my group in fact our group mostly avoid defence field, we did things for certain high level people ( i can't specify the people or the positions they currently at yet those people are 1 or 2 levels below No 1 ) which never made any sense yet since they generated tens of billions or dozens so as our fee, we did them without questions ( there was one particular project though that burdened our morale with guilt that finally we abandoned it, left it for another similar group and since then we left behind anything related to state programme )

There is also ukhomto missiles system offered to fit the bung Tomo class vls just after Indonesian bought those Bung Tomo class back then, but there is problem with financing issue. So the MoD opt to fit them during MLU program
