The Algerian coastguard has shot dead two tourists holidaying in Morocco who reportedly strayed into Algerian waters on their jet skis.
They were among four French-Moroccan dual nationals who had set off from the Moroccan resort of Saidia.
A third member of the group was arrested by the coastguard which patrol the two states' closed border.
The two nations have a long history of tension, tied to Morocco's claims to the disputed Western Sahara.
The border between them was closed in 1994, with Algiers severing ties two years ago. It accused Morocco of hostile acts - an allegation rejected by Rabat.
The shooting sparked anger in Morocco after a fisherman posted footage of a lifeless body floating in the sea.

Mohamed Kissi was the only one of the group of four to make it back to Morocco, AFP news agency reports, quoting Moroccan media.
"We got lost but we kept going until we found ourselves in Algeria," said Mr Kissi, whose brother Bilal was killed. He said the group had also run out of fuel.
"We knew we were in Algeria because a black Algerian dinghy came towards us" and those on board "fired at us", he said.
"Thank God I wasn't hit but they killed my brother and my friend," he added.
Mr Kissi denied the group had tried to escape when they were discovered by the coastguard, telling local media that his brother had tried talking to officials before he was shot.
"They arrested my other friend. Five bullets hit my brother and my friend. My other friend was hit by a bullet."

Mr Kissi said he then tried to swim back to Saidia and was eventually picked up by the Moroccan navy.

His cousin, the actor Abdelkarim Kissi, has called on the Moroccan authorities to bring the case to international courts.
"They killed Bilal Kissi my little cousin," he wrote on social media.
"His only fault was crossing the Algerian territorial waters, he was on vacation with his friends."
Abdelali Merchouer has been named as the second man killed.
His body is still in Algeria, according to Moroccan news site Le360.

The man arrested by the Algerian coastguard, named as Smail Snabe, reportedly appeared before a prosecutor on Wednesday but no details were given.
A Moroccan government spokesman declined to comment on the shooting, telling AFP it was "a matter for the judiciary".
There was no immediate comment from Algeria.
The two nations share a border nearly 2,000km (1,242 miles) long which has been a source of tension since independence from French colonial rule.
It was closed in 1994 for security reasons after Islamist militants bombed a hotel in the historic Moroccan city of Marrakesh.

Urgent

The Algerian regime targeted 4 unarmed Moroccan citizens on a jet ski after they mistakenly entered the Algerian maritime field in Saidia. One citizen was killed and the other one was transferred to a prison inside Algeria.

Can't the Algerian regime intercept the vehicle and return it to Morocco without committing a crime against humanity against them?

@Knowledgeseeker what do u think brother ?
A disgraceful, and inhumane way of killing 2 civilians that lost their way into Algerian waters while being on their jetski. Testimony of the older brother has been released where he claims that his younger brother and friend got shot after talking with the Algerian coast guard. He was the only one able to escape them while they were shooting at him recklessly.

The result of the incident is that there were 4 people in total doing jetski in the northeast of Morocco, 2 got killed, one managed to escape, while one was arrested, and sent to prison in Algeria. Of the 2 deceased Moroccans one was found by a Moroccan fisherman in the sea, while the other is in Algeria where the Algerian authorities have still not sent the body back to the family of the deceased.

The Moroccan military Gendarmerie is still investigating the incident and will submit a detailed report to the army. No official comment from the Moroccan side as we speak. For us Moroccans who know the situation with Algeria, we know that their military state is the biggest cowards that are only able to target civilians. The incident that took place is a calculated step taken by Algeria that wants to drag us into a full-scale war. Their fate is certain!

Unjustifiable force.
not quite, jetskis are frequently used by drug smugglers from Morocco, according to the guy they tried to run away from the guard instead of complying and getting apprehended so the guards had no choice but to open fire as per the MO. pretty justifiable i'd say.

Complete lies , how can they smuggle drugs using jet-skis and in daylight in front of tourists and Moroccan/Algerian coast guards ?

They did not run away from the guards , the later gave them permission to go back , while returning they were shot at in the back, thus resulting in 2 martyrs and 1 being imprisoned with no legal basis in your country

and , according to international law , if a peaceful intruder does not pose any threat to the national security and it was on mistake , it is forgivable, but it seems like your regime is a bit weak in these matters

You are such a disgrace, and you have clarified yourself even more now with this post. At least be like many other Algerians that either feel sorry about the incident, or the other group that salute the action of the border guards, and the rest of the armed forces.

The testimony of the older brother of one of the deceased said clearly in his interview that they got in contact with the Algerian border guard/navy, and after being in contact they shot the ones in their back. There is even a video circulating showing the bullet wounds that hit one of the deceased. The latter that made the testimony said that he escaped while being shot at until his jetski went out of fuel, and got rescued by the Moroccan navy in Moroccan waters.

Keep your hypocrisy, and lies to yourself! You are well aware of the testimony! The fate of cowards like you is certain and a certain response will be given. The Moroccan nation has been patient and shown positive willingness towards the Algerians for such a long time even if you guys waged war on us for more than 6 decades. Salute to the honorable Algerians that are a good majority of their country, however with great shame the communist propaganda machine of the Algerian military state has indeed affected another big portion of their society. Shame on you!

oh please let's not play dumb

my point was establishing the context, not accusation against the people involved when i brought up criminal activity, now as for border guards, when you are ordered to comply yet you refuse to you're going to get shot eventually if all other means failed to make them comply, that is really generous i'd say, far more generous than what the algerian truckers who got droned couple of years ago got.

Again stop with your disgraceful comments and lies. The only testimony available now is from the one who managed to escape while his little brother and friend got shot cowardly in the back after being instructed by the Algerian coast guard to return back to Moroccan waters. Haha funny you mention the Algerian truck drivers, I was waiting for that. Just expose your face here, I'm already sure that you are one of the dishonorable Algerians who curse Moroccans on other Arab defense forums.

This is my last comment to a disgrace like you who come here to try to deceive people!

1-i have no reason to lie really as the bar is so low execution post apprehension would be morally tolerable in comparison to what you country did, nor am i in the business of catering to other people's sensibilities.

2-the testimony is available i totally agree, he said that the coast guard boat approached them then his brother signaled to them to go, which is fleeing, then the process of shooting was initialized. shouldn't have ran away although if the algerian navy was operating the same way your army does it would've shot to kill at first encounter, exactly how the cabin of the trucks of the algerian drivers were targeted instead of the hull in order to disable it. as i said, the bar is just that low.

3-keep your assumptions to yourself sunshine, and you've baited no one really as you've done nothing with what i said.

contradicting you and contesting your narrative doesn't constitute disgrace or deceit, whining and lying does.

1-if you're talking about the trucks , that was purely legal regarding that they trespassed on a "warzone" and a restricted military area , they had to be liquidated

2-he ran because the officer told him to leave the maritime space ASAP , while returning home , they were targeted in the back

3-

4- no one lied , he stated the facts that you try to cover in a desperate way .

Brother please don't fall into his debating tricks, let's not let him open a new "topic" in this thread. The video is clear, and the sources are clear on what took place. I will once again link a BBC article that confirms what I have explained in the previous post. It's very obvious that the disgrace above plays his games on the forum. First, he tried to come here claiming that it was a possibility that they would be drug smugglers and that they were running away. Secondly, he started comparing the incident with a scenario that happened in a war scenario that is fully monitored by MINURSO as we speak. In other words, I would not be surprised to see him being one of the people who claim that their "revenge" has been taken and that they are now square with us.

Again the older brother that made the testimony denied that his younger brother and friend tried to escape from the cost guard and that they talked to them. The coast guard reportedly showed them where the way back to Morocco was, and cowardly shot the 2 in their back with multiple shots.

1-so is shooting suspects once they fail to comply to law enforcement, the tear jerking is really unwarranted.

2-really ? the guy says he ran after his dead brother waved for him to run, now it became he interacted with the officer ?

3-

4-i've obfuscated no facts i'm literally quoting what the guy said. can't say the same about you.
