Wow such a brilliant policy. First got kicked out of f35 program and buy 23 billion dollars worth of us made weaponry. Make Greece f35 owner. This was impossible with previous governments (aka “old Turkey “)
And if we are buying this much AA and AG ammunitions. Where will we use Goktug, Atmaca blah blah ?

I don't understand some people in this forum, we need these fighter planes, the Russian ones suck, and the Chinese only sell the Russian clones to other countries which suck just as much. They don't sell the good fighters to others, otherwise they would have done it long ago.
Europe does not sell Eurofighters to us, Turkey is a bigger threat in their eyes than Iran & Co.
KAAN & Hürjet need at least 7-8 years to be competitive not only on paper, but also in an emergency, i.e. in absolute practice.
The F-4 Phantoms II Terminator are falling apart, they have long since reached their sell-by date.
Until KAAN, Hürjet, Kizilelma, Anka 3 really perform within the desired parameters to compete with F-35, Eurofighter & Rafaele it will take at least another 7-8 years.
Until then, we need a transitional period with almost 300 F-16 Block 70/Özgur + various HALE/MALE drones for the next 10 years.

We can't just eat steak every day, we have to eat other foods too.
The same applies to fighter planes, the F-16 is well known and the maintenance and servicing is cheap.
It's a versatile workhorse, the US uses more of their F16 Vipers, F18 Super Hornets & F-15 Strike Eagles on their war missions than their F-35s & F-22s which are just too expensive to operate....

I mean we all know that Turkey is facing massive pressure from the Western world, and the need to have a middle-gap solution until KAAN enters mass production, and matures. However, making a huge 23 billion dollar deal??? For what?? Have the Americans made any concessions to Turkiye that are hidden? Let's say that the Americans refused to offer the F-35, but why not go for a twin-engine fighter like the F-15EX? 23 billion.........

The fact that today - when half the world, especially in the regions close to us, seem to have gone crazy - the urgent need for these aircraft is undeniable. We are talking about a huge amount that the Americans call.

Apart from that, the weight of money alone was the deciding factor in us getting this deal.
I'm sure some senators would have blocked it, but companies like Lockheed Martin & Co certainly told them underhand in no uncertain terms, "We'll fuck you if you block the deal, we're talking 23 billion if any of you fuckers even think about blocking it, we'll make sure you can forget your re-election".

There's also a reason why we're probably ordering tons of ammunition to create relationships so that the US doesn't get too nervous.

If we look at where we have come from the beginning of everything, you are right; it might not be a win . But at least there is something we finally get. And there are many other things on the list. Like about 1000 AIM-120-C8 AMRAAM missiles.

Ok, we don't get any other fighter jets ready, neither from Europe nor from the USA, we don't have access to the F-35 fighter jets, we don't get the really good fighter jets from Russia SU57 or China J20 and J31 either because we are a NATO member.
The Greeks will get their 40 F-35s regardless of whether we get the F-16s or not.
So tell us the alternatives? Maybe I've missed something, I'm talking about milestones over the next 10 years.
Apart from that, you don't really believe that Greece will really get 40 F35s in the next 6-8 years.
The countries are all queuing up at the moment, first of all the US versions will be upgraded, then the other countries that have already ordered will follow. By the time Greece gets all its F35s, we will have already built 10-20 KAAN Block 10s.

Perhaps agreements have been made that are worth more than these fighter jets, such as an assurance that the US government will not do anything if General Electric builds an engine with TEI/Kale or other turkish Company that Turkey has full rights to.

Wtf! Who on earth from the Turkish govt side was doing the maths when formulating this deal? This is a complete rip off! I wont be surprised if the US regained the losses it took for selling 40 F35s for just 8 billion through the deal made with Turkey!

First of all, the prices reported to the congress are estimated. The actual price will be determined after negotiations when the real contract is signed if there won't be any objection in congress.

Secondly, sale of up to 40 F35As without munitions to Greece has been authorised and according to Greek news sources, the amount to be purchased will be 20 units initially. Greek F35s will have to use existing stocks of missiles for a certain period of time.

The Turk F16 Package includes 1350 latest generation air to air missiles, nearly 200 anti-radiation and nearly 2400 air to ground munition of various models. At the same time, 169 IVEWS EW kits were ordered for 119 upgrade + new purchases. Likewise, there are 149 AN-APG83 AESA radars ordered for 119 total aircraft. These figures indicate a huge renewal and combat readiness.

It should not be forgotten that F35s will enter Greek inventory only in the 2030s. By this year, developments in domestic projects will be much more clearly observable and entry into the inventory will have begun.

Don't pay attention to people who try to scare public with worst case scenarios. You will witness how regional balances will be upset. Just be patient

Turkiye has already stated that it would not accept any conditions regarding Greece or any other regional matter and there is no such text in the declaration submitted to the Congress. It is also mentioned this in the last part of the text you shared. Apart from that, it is always possible that US, which didn't give paid F35s to Turkiye, will make such a move for F16s if you're making a deal with a state like US. So it is not a new situation.
