The first of Israel’s four new Sa'ar 6-class corvettes, INS Magen, is due to reach Haifa naval base in early December, an official in the Israeli Navy stated on 4 November. The vessel is currently undergoing sea trials off Germany, where it was built by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems.

The other three corvettes are scheduled to arrive in 2021: INS Oz in July, INS Atzmaut in September, and INS Nitzhahon in November, the official said.

Commander Gil Nitzan, head of the Magen Project, said the ships will have their mostly Israeli-made weapons and systems installed after they arrive. These will include 76 mm main guns, a new type of anti-ship missile that is being developed in Israel and has yet to be identified, and Rafael Typhoon remote weapon stations.

The official confirmed that all the corvettes will be equipped with the C-Dome naval variant of the Iron Dome air defence system, as well as Barak-8 surface-to-air missiles for more challenging and longer-range targets such as supersonic anti-ship missiles. On-board electronic warfare systems will serve as an additional layer of defence, he added, a possible reference to jamming GNSS weapon guidance systems.

The centrepiece of the class’s capability will be its Adir multi-mission radar, the Israeli variant of the EL/M-2248 MF-STAR, and a command-and-control system that integrates the onboard systems and connects the ships to wider Israel Defense Forces’ networks. The new radar will allow us to detect for more than 100-200 km, Cmdr Nitzan said.

Currently Israel has only one ship equipped with MF STAR radar and Barak 8 missiles. Thats Saar 5 class INS Lahav:

With the arrival of 4 Saar 6 class ships we will have 5 Barak-8 ships total.

The corvette will also have C-Dome. I cant still understand how the tiny surface-to-air Tamir missile has 40km range. Moreover it has neither a radar nor IR seeker.

The second one C-dome's Tamir missile and fifth Barak 8.

Barak 8 is also very interesting missile which has 2 mach speed (lower than usual) and has 100km long range.

Maybe @500 knows more

Indian Navy is very satisfied with its performance.

Tamir has IR seeker. The range is not disclosed based on its size its around 20-30 km.

Barak 8 speed is not disclosed either. Its range without booster is 70 km (with booster 150 km). And based on this range it's max speed is much more than 2 Mach.

according to internet Tamir -which belongs to Iron dome- just have radio guidance without IR or active radar . That's why it is a cheap missile which is created to intercept cheap artillery rocket s.
Also another interesting fact russian sources claims ıron dome range is 70km.

Look here is the Tamir missile. I cant see any IR seeker.

AFAIK Barak 8 reaches long range thanks to its speed, burning rocket fuel slower than other SAMs.

Comparing SAMs with 80 km range such as patriot, aster 30 the Barak 8 looks smarter. They have same dimensions with ESSM which has just 40km range.
İt's tricky how İsraeli rockets can reach longer range.

Artillery rockets are very small very fast targets, so in order to intercept them you need very high accuracy, so seeker is absolutely necessary. Also in later models Iron Dome was adopted to UAVs and cruise missiles.

Active radar seeker would be very expensive. That's why much cheaper IR seeker was used.

In order to reduce the drag detachable fairings are used:

In this video at 0:57 u can see the fairing separation well:

70 km is max range of artillery rockets Iron Dome can intercept. Thats common mistake. Iron Dome rself has smaller range obviously.

Long range of Barak 8 is achieved thanks to 2 pulse engine. First pulse accelerates missile and flies through ballistic trajectory (similar to artillery rocket) and when it approaches the target second pulse ignites to achieve maneuver and interception. You can see second pulse ignition in this video at 0:37:

Latest version of Patriot PAC-3 (MSE) also has two pulse engine.

Tamir missile doesn't have IR seeker. It has very advanced proximity fuze.
Updated : the missile might have radar seeker!!??

Iron dome uses ELM-2084 S-band radar. S band is good for long range detection, its good for detection of stealthy targets and jam resistant. But it has low accuracy compare to cm and especially mm wave radars.

That's why the seeker is absolutely must have for the Iron Dome.

RF seeker would not need the separated fairing (they could simply use RF transperent fairing). Only IR seekers need it (IR seekers have relatively high drag),

BTW. Pantsir, which is pure radio guided missile uses mm wave radar to guide its missiles. That makes Pantsir vulnerable to weather conditions (clouds, rain, fog, dust), to stealth and jamming.
