The Spanish Air and Space Army has decided to replace its F-5 aircraft with 24 Turkish-made Hurjet advanced trainers. In addition, the strategic transport fleet will be expanded with the acquisition of six new A400M aircraft. These changes are part of the modernization of the Spanish air force, improving both training and transport capabilities. After half a century of service, the aircraft will cease service in 2030.

Last Sunday, a prototype of the new models landed at the Torrejón de Ardoz base and a Spanish delegation will travel to Turkey in a few weeks to put an aircraft exchange agreement on the table. Spain replaces the F-5 and disposes of part of the unused A400M.

Spain is looking to dispose of ten aircraft of this type. Initially it ordered 27 A400M aircraft, but later assured that only 14 would be used. A year ago, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, explained that in the end Spain would be left with 17, so it is looking to dispose of ten.

It is unclear how the deal will be finalized and what the delivery schedules will be, but what we do know is that Spain wants to hand over a total of 10 A400Ms to another country air force, without taking into service. And I think the other important detail is that the Hurjet will be configured as an advanced training jet and light attack jet not only for the air force but also for the naval aviation, which creates a significant potential for future Turkish-Spanish defense industry cooperation.

One A400M is around 120m € per piece. 10x around 1.2 bln €
24 Hürjet, how expensive can they be? I think there might be a bit of money involved too.

A400M current cost is higher.
Hurjet trainer is likely around $40 millions each. 6x A400M will be transferred for 24x Hurjet. That's what has been claimed here by one of the members few days ago, iirc.

Spain currently does not have plans to build a second, larger carrier. They had made plans more than a decade ago for a second LHD but they went nowhere. There is currently some external push from pundits or two (both articles talk about Turkish programs as well for the interested) for a second LHD to double L61, but not a true carrier, so they wouldn't have a use for Hürjet-N. Per them, they simply don't have the budget for a new carrier, a new airwing(Harrier or F-35B?) and escorts. They didn't even finalize an F-35 order yet. If they did, they could make a valuable partner to share the costs for our own project in the future.

Türkiye establishes 16th main jet base in Dalaman, Mugla

My dream is navy and air force agree on training a small special joint force for future of naval aviation. Like a group of 10 naval officers training on Hürjet and later developing navy version of Hürjet light attack version and maybe even train on F16. Those pilots and technicians etc should then be influential in developing future of naval aviation wing. I mean just having a small group of Hürjet equipped with anti ship payloads patrolling east med and supporting ships where necessary could be something.

With Turkiye's vision for its navy, the rising importance of its role in its power projection and the future plans for an aircraft carrier it is a matter of time. I don't have even the slightest doubt that the navy will be planning and executing this transformation in the best way possible and I am also sure that they can get very valuable training and experience by our air forces.

Possible future home of Turkish EF Tranche 5 fighters if germany stops being stubborn and okeys the sale like all the other members of the consortium already have?

Acc. to rumours the Air Force wants Tranche 5 Eurofighter and that is the one the Brits are also offering to the TAF.

Funnily enough if there aren't anymore follow up orders for future EF production in germany could cease meaning the loss of jobs for hundreds if not thousands of people. And yet germany is still being stubborn for no good reason.

There was a visit , again, from TAF personnel to inspect the EF recently.

Visit itself doesn't mean anything more than the Japanese training squadron commander visiting Baykar.

New Saudi order of 48 aircraft from BAE, Spanish order of 45 new aircraft from Airbus Spain and the German order of 38 new aircraft ensures the supply lines in German Airbus and other subcontractors stays open for another 10-15 years at least. A Tranche 5 happening or not mostly depends on UK and Germany ordering it.

This is not the first visit, so yes it actually means something. If the Japanese visited Baykar five times in a span of a couple months there would be something too :)

Yup, that's the one I mentioned.

It's the second one. And unless Germany gives its blessing and okay, doesn't matter if they visit 6 more times. These visits should be made to Germany instead.

One thing to add, If Turkey is able to place an order for EF Tranche 5, which is not yet an active phase, it would also be a carrot for UK and German governments, because costs would decrease. But Turkey being the launch customer for T5, also would mean greater Turkish political interest in the project, which I doubt the same governments would like very much. As Turkey won't be a part of the consortium, noone would want to give some part of the reins to Turkey over the future of the project. For F-35, US was the only voice that mattered, for EF, it's 4 countries. Even if they lower their procurement of the aircraft, they won't want to relinquish control over their baby.

I created these images and posted them on Reddit before deleting them. The first one is a comparison of the F-22 and Kaan from a similar angle (though the Kaan photo was taken closer to the camera). The second is a comparison between the Su-57 and Kaan. Both are unofficial technical drawings that I rescaled so that 1 pixel equals 1 cm. I deleted them from Reddit because I didn’t like the stupid gatekeeping of retarded Westerners on Reddit so I deleted in there, but I also don’t want these images to just sit idle on my computer.
