Looking at some Syrians, Egyptians and Palestinians and the Turkish sounding surnames I always questioned it. Why do they have some turkish sounding surnames. As a kid in particular then you read history and realise how the Turks settled and stayed in the Middle East for centuries.

Even Arabs who are not Turkish/Turkic origin took these kind of surnames.

Mamluks were about half caucasian, and anyway if Mamluk sultan brings Egyptian peasants to Gaza these peasants dont turn into Turks suddenly.

Palestinians are indeed a mix of various migrants from all around. The major tribes are:

Qays coalition - from Hejaz
Yaman coalition - from Yemen
Egyptian migrants who mostly settled in coastline.
Lebanese and Syrian migrants in Galillee.

These 4 compose the overwhelming majority of the Palestinians. But in addition to them there are small number of Mugrabis, Sudanese (black Palestinians), Albanians, Iraqis, Circassians and finally some Turks too. Thus Turks compose barely couple percent of the Palestinians and even those completely lost their roots and dont speak a word in Turkish.

The only one who still speak Turkish here are the Jews.

However there are about 70k Turkish Jews in Israel.
