I see people pointing out that almost all ballistic missiles are hypersonic in the terminal phase, so there is no such thing as a “hypersonic ballistic missile.” What makes Tayfun Block 4 different from other ballistic missiles such that it’s called hypersonic? Or is it just a marketing gimmick?

It’s clear that we’re making a remarkable breakthrough on the international stage with Tayfun and, subsequently, CENK, but there’s a flood of baseless speculation—to the point of taking things way too far—all in the name of generating engagement or clickbait, especially on social media. Given Tayfun’s propulsion system and the predictible apogee of its predicted ballistic trajectory within the estimated range, the terminal descent velocity it can reach or the limits within which it can remain is more or less can be guess by BM enthuaists. I’m not an expert on this and won’t make definitive claims, but I think it’s reasonable to say that re-entry momentum—that is, the kinetic energy accumulated in a frictionless environment—is the primary determining factor here. When I scrolling social media today, I saw all sorts of nonsense from people claiming speeds of 20 Mach to those insisting Cenk will reach ICBM range. Some self-proclaimed expert, who seems to have no clue that the issue isn’t simply about building a bigger rocket, has suddenly declared himself a ballistic missile specialist after a Roketsan post. We’ve made tremendous progress. But we still need to acquire a number of critical technologies.

For a ballistic missile :
1. to reach hypersonic speeds during it’s flight for a given time, and
2. being hypersonic ,
are two very different things.

Yes, majority of longer than 300km range SRBM class ballistic missiles reach 5mach speeds for a while, especially during midcourse and right after their apogee in their downward travelling towards earth. But they are not hypersonic weapons. These missiles start losing speed after 20000m when they hit denser layers of atmosphere. In fact some of them barely reach supersonic speeds when they hit their targets.

First Tayfun missile flew for 456seconds and hit a target 561km away from where it was fired. If it had a suppressed trajectory of say 80km, it actually flew for: 561 + 80 + 80 =721km in total.
So:
721/456 =1581metres per second average speed, which relates to ~5.5Mach. (At that altitude 1 Mach is approximately 285m/second)
That means if we ignore the time of first acceleration and last 20km flight where the missile speed diminishes to 1.5 Mach ; First Tayfun was flying at a speed well above 6 Mach during midcourse.

But that doesn’t make this First Tayfun a hypersonic weapon either.

Tayfun block 4 however has been designated as a hypersonic weapon. That means :
1. It has to perform manoeuvres during flight,
2. It has to hit its target with speeds at or higher than 5 Mach .

To achieve 2nd condition it has to reignite it’s engine during terminal phase. Roketsan MD clearly stated that Block 4 is a hypersonic weapon and it hits it‘s target at 5 Mach speed.

I think we can all agree on Tayfun Block 4 is a ballistic missile in looks, the flight profile is most likely nothing like a ballistic missile. I am pretty sure we will learn when we see Tayfun Block 5 or CENK at this point

The only proof that it could exist is the video below and some officials uttering it’s name sometimes.

That head they are screwing on in below video, can not be the explosive payload. No one can handle a payload that is 300kg to 500kg like that, and it doesn’t look that big to be half a ton. Does anyone know what that is?
Also that missile‘s diameter is no more than 60 cm. (Just check those technicians’ torso. A normal man’s waist line from ground is no more than 94cm). Heck! They stated that Tayfun-4 is nearly 94cm in diameter. Cenk is supposed to be bigger.
So I don’t know what they were showing us in this video!!

Unless some official comes up and shows us a firing of CENK , anything anybody says is conjecture.

what about Gezgin?
Actually, we need that more than others. We progressed some capabilities on hitting land targets with SOM, Atmaca (shore and non-deep land targets)

I believe we are seeing the Cenk at the end of the video, the light beige pod shown on the trailer. It is enormous, as wide as the trailer itself.

While the earlier missile loaded by the personnel with the nose cone is a variant of Tayfun-Block 4, I believe. Somewhat similar to mysterious launcher of few days ago.

We haven't known Tayfun Block 4 (or maybe 3) when the Cenk's teaser was released, they hid the real monster in the ending and we can notice the differences now.

This pod even seems to be as wide as the truck itself. It still is a mystery to me how we haven't noticed this one being transported between the facilities or cities. They must have hid it properly or concealed along other shipments.

I believe that Tayfun’s subsequent blocks will make their real breakthrough not so much in terms of range or warhead size, but rather in the area of MaRV. Once that stage has matured sufficiently, what comes next is more or less clear.
