Pakistan is going through a construction boom. Thousands of miles of motorways/expressways are spreading across Pakistan, new cities are coming up at breakneck speed. Along with this PM Imran Khan's vision of clean energy, ten dams on the Indus cascade - a region in North Pakistan where the Indus River flows down the mountains are being built most of which will be complete by 2028 providing massive water resrvoirs and cheap hydel electricity. This thread will follow these developments.

Under-construction Diamer Bhasha Dam is the tallest RCC Dam in the world! This project is very important for Pakistan's water, food and energy security, upon completion, will produce 81 lakh acres of water storage and 4500 megawatt of clean, green and affordable electricity.

The project, 12 lakh 30 thousand acres of additional land will be cultivated and the National Grid will be provided every. 18 billion units of electricity will be supplied in the year.

It will store 8.1MAF of water to irrigate 1.23 million acres of additional land. Besides, it will also generate 4500 MW green, clean energy with indigenous resource and provide 18 billion units per annum to the National Grid.

A key construction breakthrough at POWERCHINA's Diamer Basha Dam Project in Pakistan! The main cable of a 30-ton cable crane has been successfully pulled across the river. Spanning over 1,500 meters, this ultra-long span installation represents an industry-leading technical achievement.

Facing high-altitude canyon conditions and complex engineering challenges, the team worked around the clock for three days to ensure a safe, seamless connection—setting a solid foundation for the subsequent assembly and operation of the cable crane system.

One step closer! The first batch of foundation cushion concrete has been poured at POWERCHINA’s Diamer Basha Dam Project in Pakistan.

A total of 320 cubic meters of concrete was placed onto the rock surface, filling depressions and sealing cracks, setting the very first benchmark for the main dam body.
During the foundation work, the team took targeted steps.

Dewatering wells were installed to drain seepage and keep the site dry. Where the rock surface was uneven, stepped treatment was applied to ensure a solid bond. This concrete placement provides a stable working platform for the first layer of roller-compacted concrete, marking the shift from foundation treatment to a base ready for construction.

Next, the project team will carry out the remaining pours and start consolidation grouting when conditions are ready, laying a solid foundation for the full dam build.
