That would be a big mistake in my opinion. I can understand infrastructure and wht not is a big issue, but the location of Cairo will never change the importance of the city and whoever governs Cairo will have a big say in Egypt.

Perhaps expanding outwards and at the same time demolishing bad structures in Cairo could spreadout the crowdedness.

You’d need to establish a solid working group consisting of foreign consultants for Cairo. As city development left in the hands of domestic consultants seem to yield incompetence. I.e Istanbul in the hands of AKP.

That is in another words:
"We have screwed up with the capital, and government is abandoning it for comport of bureaucrats and MPs.
You commoners will have to live in this mess."

IMO good move like Istanbul and Ankara. Didn't we do that too, why are you criticizing?

New city it means new opportunities and new living spaces. Congrats.

Ankara was more about geopolitics then anything. Istanbul is a relatively flat plane, its vulnerable to invasion or at least was back then. You can't have your power centre so vulnerable.

For Istanbul to be safe you need the mountain range in Bulgaria as your border. Still to this day i never see the border of western Istanbul complete, you can't have the largest city in europe so venerable.
