I remember reading an excerpt from an academic paper by TNI AU personnel describing the shortfalls of the Flankers. Also, a high-ranking officer says they've had enough. (As in "sudah cukup") in the context of being asked whether they'd like to procure more. I think the procurement work should go to the academic side of things mixed with on-field personnel providing context and grounding the decisions, not political moves to cozy up to some country or exchange of trade.

I'm hoping it would stay as obrolan angkringan 🙏
For me, flanker e is not bad but still put it as the last option when relations with western are stretched in case 2003 past.

At this time, there is no urgency for TNI to buy a flanker when the arms import tap from western countries is wide open even for tier 1 stuff like guardian apache, f15ex, rafale F4...they are lethal weapon will we had in the future..

The probem is POCKET, how deep you are affect your stuff get

Yeah, It's certainly not the worst option when secondhand is on the table.

I just don't agree because we've spent money on the 42 Rafales. Like you said, I don't see the urgency either, and it seems like the money is better spent elsewhere. The only thing beating the Rafales in the region is Singaporean F35s and maybe the F15... They should be sufficient, especially in those numbers.

But that also depends on what munitions the Air Force could procure, which brings it back to money. We don't have a large stockpile of AMRAAMs for the vipers according to DSCA. Let's hope they can afford to buy a meaningful amount of Meteors and MICAs to make good use of the coming airframes. And not toothless like the early flankers.

it's all about your money, unfortunately the purchase of missiles is defeated by hro mobdin and yeah "key opinion public/buzz3r" that we don't need at all.

This made me dig some stuff up and found this older DOD article. It's from sept 2023.
Does it mean it's been in Indo secretly this whole time?
Could be only recently received

NOI - The Indonesian Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) is entering a decisive phase in its efforts to modernize the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) through the planned acquisition of 24 F-15EX fighter jets. According to the latest update from Kemenhan, shared by Brigadier General TNI Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, Head of the Defense Information Bureau, the continuation of this strategic initiative is now awaiting budget approval from the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu).

Speaking during an online forum in Jakarta on April 17, 2025, Brig. Gen. Frega explained that defense procurement in Indonesia involves a multi-ministerial coordination process. “The Ministry of Defense fully supports the government's policies. The final decision on budget allocation lies with the central government and the Ministry of Finance,” he stated, emphasizing that the Defense Ministry has already submitted its procurement proposal.
