Excerpts.

"Naval News understands that TNI AL has already expressed interest in upgrading both vessels to a ‘Full’ configuration and choosing the Aster 30 as the primary surface-to-air missile for the two ships."

"In addition to its surface ship offerings, Fincantieri reaffirmed to Naval News that it continues to offer its U212 NFS submarine to the Indonesian Navy. The advanced conventional submarine, originally developed for the Italian Navy, is being positioned as a solution to meet TNI AL’s needs for operating at least 12 submarines."

With the tonnage at hand, Indonesians have pushed for more armament onboard using Turkish systems. Good approach. Similar to Polish requirements with their type 31 variant... compared to original British type 31 which is pretty under-armed for now.

Swedes are looking to go for lower tonnage instead given "limited results with Babcock", i.e FDI, given their more restricted/shallow context and procurement timeline:

Which shouldn't even be taken as a datapoint honestly. I like merah putih, it's going slowly and it's a bit of a hodgepodge but it'll turn out nicely once ready.

British from what I understand have delegated/focused lethality in rest of their naval force structure. So this gave them some leeway to "explore" with type 31 this "less-armed/tonnage" way with intention of room on hand for more unmanned systems, future adaptive growth etc, and at same time keeping price for them pretty low.

Not useful approach for other navies with more pressing lethality need in frigate classes. More wherewithal needed with the tonnage for them, its more zero sum issue with their force structure context.

The initial plan was to get iver huitfeldt class, but changed to AH140 vanilla then changed again to AH140 with Turkish sewaco.

Frigat Merah Putih is also pushing for the lower price.

Lower price but much more firepower? 😅

The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) awarded a contract to Exail for the supply of unmanned surface vessels (USV) and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) dedicated to mine warfare.
