I remember in the 2000s watching Türkiye come 3rd in the world cup, 1st place is Eurovision and seeing the 30 August military parade every year on TV. I was just a kid but felt proud of being a Turk. But my dad always spoke poorly of Erdoğan and I never really understood why. Things seemed good and I didn't know what was going on behind the scenes.
As I became an adult I became interested in the Turkish military and defence industry. Although I wasn't particularly fond of the government, I saw the operations both inside and outside of Türkiye and the progress of the defence industry and thought to myself that perhaps Erdoğan isn't so bad after all. Particularly in the 2020 Azerbaijan-Armenia war, I really had a high opinion of him, and it felt like we were heading towards some kind of Turkic union.
But now everything is out in the open. Economy is ruined, land is being sold to foreigners, millions of refugees are ruining the social fabric of the country, crime is rampant, our airforce is woefully unprepared as Greece has surpassed us, Syria has been an absolute fiasco, Kurdistan project is in full swing in both Syria and Iraq, Israel and Greece are both toying with us and we're not doing anything, Cyprus is arming up, absolute fucking shitshow.
It's clear that the government is massively corrupt, incompetent and uses foreign policy as a tool to stay in power. What was the Trump visit really about? Erdoğan's own survival.
No one will take us seriously for as long as AKP is in power. We're an empty husk of what we were previously. Hollowed out by western-backed Islamists, filled with foreign agents and potential terroists, with an military that's constantly monitored by the government for loyalty over competence. Our defence industry was in full swing in the 90s, they'd fill the inventory with new systems and you wouldn't hear a word about it until years later. Now it's all a show, all politicized. KAAN can give me votes, so let me put my signature on it and take a picture in the cockpit.
Joke of a government. Ümit Özdağ or Mansur Yavaş are our only hope, if they don't get arrested.
