If they go forward with this model of only buying 3 ships from abroad building the rest in the US, they will further fall back compared to the chinese. It will take more than a decade to rebuild a ship industry that is acceptable and during that timeframe buying ships from abroad would be much easier and faster

By the way, it's not even clear if this can get funded. This is president's and his secnav's baby. So far it hasn't received any funding from the congress. At this time it's nothing more than a show.

We have no idea what kind of behind closed doors blackmail could be used to force the hand of Türkiye to make such investment.

That is what I am fearing.

Sugarcoat it with something, but hide the truth from the public.

Our South Korean neighbors' crown jewel, Hanwha shipyard, has been on the Americans' radar for a long time — their Navy procurement guys literally dream about packing up those shipyards and moving them to the US wholesale. But unfortunately, every time they hire a batch of Korean workers to bring over to the States, ICE rolls up and tries to intercept them and deport the whole lot.

Shows only how dumb the current American administration is.

I don't understand why Americans don't build modernized version of Oliver Hazard Perry class frigates. Even Germans cancelled F126 and decided to go with new Meko A200 frigates which was originally designed in 80s. Just update machinery, sensors, weapons and use automation to decrease crew numbers .

Because the design is obsolete.
