    Casual Discussion International Lounge

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that she had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then...

Why am I not surprised? With liter+ class bikes, I think we passed the point of diminishing returns a long time ago. After all, the basic dynamic limits are reached at the two small patches of rubber in contact with the road surface. Power, weight, lean angles and suspension come after that IMO.

    The Two Preambles

Of they are two separate and unique countries, bu the methods by which religiosity can be used as a tool for social engineering are pretty much universally applicable. Granted that some societies are harder to transform than others by these methods, but try long and hard enough, and it can be...

    The Two Preambles

That is how the process starts, slowly. But the gradual change is undeniable. The old adage about how to boil a frog alive applies here. I admire Turkey and Iran as being the only two Muslim countries that have never been colonized throughout recorded history, but both are struggling with their...

    The Two Preambles

Let me ask you this: In what ways has Turkey changed since Erdogan assumed power?

    The Two Preambles

... ... and it is still in power, and has not stopped trying. I saw this process unfold in Pakistan decades ago, and the similarities are uncanny. I'd give it a few more years and then evaluate.

    The Two Preambles

That is a good post, but now the real question is how long the present form of the Turkish Constitution lasts under their version of the General Zia-ul-Haqism process currently under way.

Is Removal of Parliamentary System Possible?

Ah yes, the good old "lazim hey ke hum bhi dekhain gey" refrain. Hum ney bahut suna hey yeh. :D The present setup alone is enough to prove that nothing substantial has changed as you hope. It remains the same, with some lipstick, that is all.

Is Removal of Parliamentary System Possible?

I understand your point, but as long as there is a periodic resetting of the proverbial clock, the people get sent back to zero, to start all over again. One never wins a race by standing. Walking is better, and running is best, preferably forwards, and with a direction in mind.

Pakistan's PM: Our economic future is now linked to China | Talk to Al Jazeera

I would contend that the Pakistani system is working perfectly to deliver exactly those results for which it was designed, and it is not about to change any time soon.

Is Removal of Parliamentary System Possible?

And I thought you were doing so well in your argument until the last line destroyed it all. As long as generations of dictators are able to usurp power periodically to eliminate any institution that may dream of mounting any effective challenge to the military, and set the nation back by...

Pakistan's PM: Our economic future is now linked to China | Talk to Al Jazeera

To describe Pakistani national strategy in rather crude terms, the madam does not care who the john is for the night. Nothing wrong with that approach, except that the johns thin out as the madam ages.

Is Removal of Parliamentary System Possible?

A nice, but wishful read. In Pakistan, anything is possible, depending on the circumstances. The Constitution is nothing but a document, dictators amend or abrogate it was they wish, any court can render a needed rubber-stamped verdict according to the doctrine of necessity, religion is the...

BAJWA FAMILY BUSINESS EMPIRE GREW IN FOUR COUNTRIES IN SYNC WITH ASIM BAJWA’S RISE IN MILITARY

I won't worry until the Pakistani Generals' progeny start settling in China. Until then, it should be business as "usual". :D
