As I said before if the air is clear(above 30.000 feet mostly clear),a good IR sensor can see any fighter including F35 at 100 km,yes you can not lock on but you can see it.If you see it you can find a solution too.
There are some handicaps for towed low frequency sonars,one is its cumbersome and not ready to go,the other is it can only performed on slow speeds,and more useful on open seas not for island seas.

I read about an exercise made in Australia,they send F35s for destruction of enemy air defence systems,later Rafales for air superiority against enemy fighters and then F-16 for the last bombing the targets.
