https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/rok/m-sam.htm Interesting that Sokor had Russia help in the initial development of Cheongung. Seems based on S-300 system.

Do we know how many will eventually be built...? License built implies significant numbers right...?

Feels naked indeed .... :) Except if we go to Block 3 stealth optimized with internal weapon bays. That may means beyond 2030 though.

https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/aviation/a36523062/air-force-new-f15-ex-eagle-wargame/ An interesting article from last year. US is still trying to figure out how to best use F15ex, considering that the 2 main strengths of F15ex is its radar and payload. "The Air Force has discussed...

No argument here. Indeed we still need get adequate number of fighters to cover our space. India has 26 - 30 squadrons, China I think could be around 40 squadrons....so the 10 - 12 squadrons in Plan Bobcat may not be enough after all, in comparison. To field that number of fighters will take a...

It maybe a good time when we need to think about not only getting more fighters to cover all our land and seas airspace, but also to look at other technology to help cover, that is more cost efficient....I am thinking of reconnaisance satellite. A combination of recon satellite(s), OTH radars...

Curious how fast will this evolve to contract, final design, and production. Learning from AH 140 experience seems we do take time to agree on final design. Furthermore Brazilian Riachuelo Scorpene based submarine also took quite sometime since deliver final product from initial contract...

If indeed the plan to acquire F15 EX goes ahead, it maybe good to ask for PW F100 engines, instead of GE, so that there is some commonality with our existing F 16 engines...this might bring some operational/maintenance cost down over the long term

With this signing of A400M, does it mean that our ask for more autonomy in CN 235 production as an offset has been reach conclusion as well...? Curious if anyone got any news on this...

IIRC the reduced cost is due to revised tax benefit....as the program is now classified as "defense goods" and becomes eligible for tax exemption. So the reduced cost benefits both Sokor and Indonesia...

My bad....you are right MEF will transition to Intermediate EF, post 2024, and then Optimal EF (not sure when). I guess this new threat environment needs to be built into the IEF planning. Even as AUS nuclear subs still years away, China nuclear subs is already roaming our water ways. And I bet...

With the recent developments in the region, such as AUKUS and QUAD, it may be a good time for our Defence Think Tank and Policy Makers to re-assess MEF, to see whether it is still relevant. The timing is also right as MEF will end by 2024...so it may be good to start thinking of transition plan...

Seems SCS and surrounding is seeing more and more this type of flights....reflecting the increasing important nature of the area from geo-politic and military stand point. I can not believe that China will not want to do the same...i.e. sending flights for intelligence gathering...
