TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Research and Technology, Bambang Brodjonegoro, said that there are currently six institutions that are developing Indonesia’s own COVID-19 vaccine dubbed the ‘Merah Putih' vaccine.
The six institutions are the Eijkman Institute of Molecular Biology, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Gadjah Mada University, University of Indonesia, the Bandung Institute of Technology, and the Airlangga University.
“The institution that may provide it the soonest is the one developed by Eijkman as it is set to enter the animal testing stage this October,” wrote Bambang in a written release on the government website setkab.go.id on October 29. “We hope it will be completed with satisfying results by the end of this year.”

The vaccine seeds that are tested on the animal subjects will then be handed to Bio Farma that will, later on, be responsible for the small scale production for the need of the first, second, and third clinical trial. The lengthy phase of trials will assure the safety of the future COVID-19 vaccine.

So Bio Farma will use Sinovac while waiting for Merah Putih.

In terms of vaccine I'm in wait n see camp tbh. I'll wait until many people have it maybe for over a year or two to see the medium term effect. Even then I'll still be hoping that some pharma companies manage to find the cure instead of vaccine.

Btw, IIRC Bio Farma will charge you Rp. 200k for sinovac. Not sure if BPJS could manage to fund this for all people.

Save 10k for a day in 3 weeks. That needs to be prepared in advance.

I completely forgot that the gov actually buy vaccines from multiple sources, including Oxford one (UK, $3 - $4 until Jul 2021) and Moderna (US, $10). So we will have many options with various degree of quality and prices.

COVID-19 is virulent you can't "cure" it. It's the same thing with ordinary flu there is no cure even for ordinary flu

Nope it won't. There isn't enough money to subsidize other than for healthcare workers, first responder, and (most likely) gov't officials / politicians. Also keep in mind of the vaccine effective period. Its appear every brand of vaccine have different effective time, not even sure how long the effectiveness of the SinoVac vaccine will be.
Anyone here knows what the possible effective time for the Modena mRNA vaccine? So far it's the only mRNA vaccine.

On the sidenote, I personally prefer to wait for the Merah putih vaccine.

One of the most worrying stuff about Covid is the sporadic reports of reinfections from all around the world. This shows you that the antibody level generated from the initial infection is rapidly declining. I don't understand with the president's insistence that the vaccine has to be ready by December. We simply need more time. He should have listened to the expert more.

Yes, I kinda agree with you. If it's vaccine, then I'd prefer Merah Putih. The vaccine is developed from day one in Indonesia so we can expect that it's perfectly matched with the virus strain that's infecting us here.

In my head, the reinfection is more about the the virus is rapidly adapting (which is dangerous for this kind of deadly virus), just as flu. Every year you see a new traits of flu virus, because their rapid adaptation.

The nation doesn't have more time. We desperately need to reopen the economy by January. And I also personally in desperate situation to have the nation economy reopen in January

Kungflu can't be cured only be prevent at some degree and Kungflu will be a part of one big families of virulent strain and goes down in history. Naturally the most effective way to handle flu is to let your whole population to face the virus and getting them developing some resilient against this particular type of virus.

For whatever the reason, i hope people still remember this China own Virus first detected in Wuhan China, and people can remember them for eternity Chungkok can only bring disaster for this world since early 2000 without being prepared to handle such Cases effectively since the beginning.

So,either vaccine entire nation in short time, or vaccine not entirely but in portions annually to prevent from the adapted virus.
Which will enforce WHO and developed countries to sell vaccine for lower prices to developing countries and support their vaccination plan, Otherwise they will have to deal with the virus every year with phase difference of months.
