NEW YORK- The severing of relations with Morocco was a decision Algeria had to take in order to send the "appropriate message" to the government of the neighboring country after "acts hostile to the sovereignty and unity of Algeria ", declared the head of the Algerian diplomacy, Ramtane Lamamra to the CNN International channel.
"Algeria has been extraordinarily patient in the face of all the acts that Morocco has committed against its sovereignty and its unity. This is why we believe that such a decision (the breakdown of relations) sent the appropriate message to the government of Morocco to tell him that we could not afford to accept more the behavior of this neighboring country, "said the Minister of Foreign Affairs during the interview broadcast Tuesday.
He further explained that the decision to sever diplomatic relations with Morocco was "a civilized way to end a situation which could not last any longer without causing damage and which risked leading the two countries to a path. not desirable ".
Lamamra, who alluded to the support shown by the Moroccan ambassador to the UN, last July, for an alleged desire for independence from Kabylia, recalled that Algeria had requested explanations from the Moroccan authorities on this subject. , but no explanation was provided.
"The Algerian government had to take a sovereign decision", he added, estimating that "in a situation of this kind, two States could not continue to maintain diplomatic relations". It was, he will say, an "abnormal situation which had to end anyway".
