Domestic production barrels that power Turkey have turned their direction to exports.
Eyüp Anlaş, General Manager of Enderus Technology, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they started R&D studies for the production of medium caliber barrels and weapons for the Turkish Armed Forces in 2017.
Explaining that they focus on the production of products that are not produced in Turkey or produced under foreign licenses and that are subject to embargo from time to time, Anlaş stated that they focus on the production of medium caliber cannons and barrels of various diameters in line with the needs of the country, in line with the needs of the country.
Stating that they have developed the 20 millimeter automatic Enderus T-20 cannon with a proven gas recoil rotary drum operating mechanism, Anlaş reported that they have completed basic firing tests at adjustable firing rates that can reach up to 1500 rounds/minute with a wide range of ammunition that can meet variable tactical needs. Anlaş informed that they continue to work on the production of this gun as a family that includes other medium caliber guns in 25, 30, 35, 40 millimeter diameters with its superior dispersion and gun/barrel life performance.
Anlaş emphasized that they preferred the electro-chemical processing method instead of the conventional methods, which have a very high upfront investment in barrel production and have foreign dependency in the machinery-equipment used. Noting that at the end of the studies, they created their own production models and produced the appropriate benches and tooling, Anlaş said:
"While developing the barrel, we simulate all of the ballistic calculations with mathematical models. Accordingly, we can design the desired weapon and barrel. We are not dependent on anyone. We have solved the mathematics of this job, for which we have also received patents. Once you solve this, you have the opportunity to make the desired weapon and turn the country into a major player in this field. There is now Enderus Technology as well as the few companies that produce medium caliber guns and barrels.
At the end of all these studies, we have come to the point where we can produce medium caliber guns and barrels from 5.56 to 120 millimeters in diameter by processing high quality steel. We produce 5,56, 7,62, 12.7, 20, 25 millimeter barrels. Our work on 30-35 millimeter barrels continues. We can also open a 120 millimeter barrel, we have prototypes with a length of 3 meters. Our 20 millimeter barrel has successfully passed the shooting tests, the qualification process has been completed, it is ready for mass production. Turkey's first domestically produced medium caliber barrel has been included in the inventory. The 40 millimeter grenade launcher barrel is already used by the security forces. To date, we have delivered more than 1000 barrels in different calibers and quantities. There are processes for which we are waiting for export permission. There are thousands of demands per month. We will start exporting by 2022. It looks like the USA or Kazakhstan will be the first."
97 percent local rate
Noting that they have a locality rate of over 97 percent in guns and barrels, Anlaş said that they use domestic resources in all processes, that the production information package belongs to them, and that they do not use any licensed components. Anlaş said, "Therefore, there is no restriction on exports. It can be exported to any country and user that Turkey deems appropriate." he said.
Anlaş noted that the manufacturing infrastructure and technological knowledge pool they created closed the gap with the world's leading manufacturers in barrel production, and laid the groundwork for the emergence of original designs and unique products of Turkey.
Eyüp Anlaş stated that low recoil medium caliber guns with their barrels have a wide range of uses such as air platforms, patrol boats, armored combat vehicles, fixed turrets, wheeled tactical vehicles.
Stating that they do not have any problems with production capacity as they produce their original machines, and that they can scale the machines according to the desired barrel, Anlaş stated that they are at a point where they can meet possible demand increases by commissioning additional production lines in line with the needs.
Collaboration with gun manufacturers
Anlaş stated that they cooperated with Turkey's leading arms manufacturers starting from the design process.
Emphasizing that they aim to meet the needs of companies that want to produce weapons but avoid high barrel investments and to show up in world markets together, Anlaş said that for this purpose, they also provide grooving service with advanced technology while producing their own barrels.
Explaining that their vision for the future is to work on material technologies, Anlaş said, "Electro-chemical processing technology is not only used in the barrel. It is possible to process high precision parts with this technology. We aim to offer this technology to the use of different sectors such as aviation and energy, and to manufacture machinery or parts." said.
