Old weak hull and no APS.

It looks like APS will be contracted later:

It looks like an old cow with that hull...should've gone for a complete re-design like the Armata

I'd still go for an Arjun Mk-1A MBT in that weight class

After the 148 Challenger 3's are delivered, the I in CADMID allows for through-life fleet management which includes fleet and supply sustainability. A way to achieve both is to contract for Low Rate Production of C3's after the main delivery. This would be 1-3 Challenger 3's produced annually* by the supplier with options such as pausing during a larger new-build or overhaul order. Unit price for the Low Rate C3's will be higher. This delivers an attrition reserve over time, keeps skills sharp, manages parts supply chain, provides opportunity for US-style overhauls and focusses minds on spiral development, improvements and "what comes next". Surplus can be Disposed of in the D of CADMID, which includes sales and export as an offset or other purpose. The model is highly successful in the US and France with Abrams, Bradley and CAESAR being exemplars. A similar model should also be rolled out for the Boxer and Ajax fleets, along with the Protected Mobility Pipeline, once deliveries are completing.
