The most exciting election is around the corner as political parties prepare for the most important election in AJK since this will be the first election post the 13th amendment and this is literally the last fortress of N left. A loss here means N will be out of all assemblies in Pakistan so this will be a massive election. PTI needs to win here since they will definitely try to showcase that despite such freedoms, the people do not desire corruption of N league. N should campaign rigorously and make sure that they dont fall away just like GB.

Mainstream parties plan power shows in AJK on Feb 5

ISLAMABAD: As the election year has begun in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the opposition’s Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) have decided to stage their shows of power in the valley at two different venues on Feb 5 when Kashmir Solidarity Day will be observed.

As the 10-party PDM has already finalised its plan to hold a public meeting in AJK capital Muzaffarabad, the PTI said on Saturday that Prime Minister Imran Khan would address a public gathering in Kotli the same day.

Talking to Dawn, a PTI spokesman said the party’s secretary general Aamer Mehmood Kiani had been directed to visit Kotli on Sunday (today) to finalise arrangements for the public meeting for which the party had already given the task to the president of the PTI’s AJK chapter Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry.

The barrister has been busy for the past few days in causing defections in the AJK chapters of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Some members of the two parties have already announced their decision to join the PTI ahead of the elections scheduled to be held later this year.
An AJK minister said that Prime Minister Khan would first address a special and traditional session of the AJK Legislative Assembly in the morning on Feb 5 and then would fly to Kotli for the PTI’s public gathering there. However, there was no official confirmation from the PTI about the participation of the prime minister in the AJK Legislative Assembly session.

PDM leaders to gather in Muzaffarabad; Imran to address public meeting in Kotli
The PDM had earlier announced its plan to hold a rally and a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, on Feb 5 but later on the proposal of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif the alliance decided to shift the venue to Muzaffarabad. The suggestion for shifting the venue had been given by Mr Sharif to PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman during a telephone conversation last week.

According to PML-N insiders, the earlier venue — Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi — had been selected as a part of the build-up for the PDM’s planned long march. Since dates for the long march had not been finalised yet, holding the Kashmir Day rally at Liaquat Bagh had lost its justification, they said.

Secondly, they argued, since the local leadership had recently arranged a gathering in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s office in Islamabad, burdening it with arrangements for another show just two weeks down the lane was hardly justifiable.

Talking to Dawn, senior vice-chairman of the PML-N and PDM secretary general Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the Muzaffarabad public meeting would be addressed by Maryam Nawaz and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. However, he said, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had not yet confirmed his participation since he was busy in the wedding of his sister Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari.

On the other hand, after winning elections in strategically-located Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), the PTI has already started preparations for the polls in AJK. In November last year, the party had announced that it had decided in principle to contest the AJK elections without forming electoral alliance with any political party.

PTI chief organiser Saifullah Nyazee in a recent statement had termed the party’s victory in the rigging allegations-tainted elections in GB “historic” and said that the PTI had become a strong and popular political entity in AJK.

A source in the PTI said that the party leadership was expecting to win elections in AJK as per the past tradition, saying that history showed that the party leading the federal government always won elections in the two regions with special status. He said that they expected that like general elections in Pakistan in 2018, several “electables” would join the PTI before the AJK polls.

The five-year term of the AJK Legislative Assembly and the PML-N government in the region will end in July.

Three AJK stalwarts join PTI before legislative assembly polls

Dewan Chughtai, Mir Atiq and Chaudhry Rashid express full confidence in leadership of PM Imran Khan and PTI manifesto
ISLAMABAD:
All J&K Muslim Conference leaders Dewan Chughtai and Mir Atiq along with key political figure from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chaudhry Rashid joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) along with their thousands of associates on Monday.

The development was announced by PTI Chief Organiser Saifullah Khan Nyazee in Islamabad earlier today.

The political leaders expressed full confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and party’s manifesto, saying that the premier is the only hope for the people of AJK as he represented their cause as ambassador of Kashmir effectively before the world.

They pledge that they would carry the message of PTI to the masses across the state and work for the growth of the party in AJK along with their supporters.

Earlier, PML-N leaders Sardar Arzash from Hajira and Sardar Fahim Akhtar Rabbani, son of former PPP minister Sardar Akhtar Rabbani from Sadhnauti had joined the PTI.

Welcoming Chughtai, Atiq and Rashid to the PTI, Nyazee said that the PTI has a comprehensive agenda and strategy for the development of AJK.

He said that the PTI will embrace political personalities with good reputation and popularity among the masses and undergo the forthcoming polls with complete preparations and strategy.

Meanwhile, PTI Central Information Secretary Ahmed Jawad and PTI Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry addressed a press conference at the National Press Club in Islamabad and briefed media about the arrangements of PM Imran's rally in Kotli on February 5 to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Jawad said that Premier Imran has exposed the true face of fascist Modi regime in front of the whole world and the United Nations, for their oppression and barbarism against the Kashmiris who are engaged in the unprecedented struggle for the right to self-determination.

He said that due to the wrong policies of the Modi government, India's economy is collapsing and the heat of its internal turmoil is being felt in the whole region.

He further added that the government of Pakistan and the PTI stand firmly behind their Kashmiri brethren and are determined to continue their full political, diplomatic and democratic support over their principle struggle for the right to self-determination.

Barrister Chaudhry said that February 5 is celebrated as the day of expressing unwavering solidarity by the people of Pakistan with the people of Kashmir but this time the prime minister will address the public gathering near LoC to express solidarity with the Kashmiris who have been persecuted by the occupying Indian forces in IIOJK and with the people of AJK who have been subjected to Indian shelling on this side of the ceasefire line.

He said that the participation of the premier in the Kotli public gathering would give a new impetus to the Kashmir cause, marking far-reaching consequences.

Answering questions of journalists, the PTI AJK president said that the people of Kashmir have become completely united under the leadership of Imran Khan.

He said that the joining of prominent political figures from all over Azad Jammu and Kashmir to the PTI was a reflection of the bright future of the people of Kashmir and their trust in the vision of the prime minister and PTI.

Barrister Chaudhry said that the masses have distanced themselves from the rhetoric of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), the alliance of opposition parties, as its leaders are pursuing personal interests.

He further said that the future belongs to those who are moving towards the development of the state and resolution of Kashmir dispute under the banner of PTI.

Pakistan on one page when it comes to Kashmir, says Maryam Nawaz at PDM's Muzaffarabad rally

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Friday said that the entire Pakistani nation was united on the Kashmir issue despite political differences.

The former premier's daughter was addressing a public gathering organised by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir's capital, Muzaffarabad. The rally coincides with Kashmir Solidarity Day which is being observed across the country today.

"The whole nation is one on the issue of Kashmir, I assure you every child of Pakistan is united [when it comes to] Kashmir," she said. "There are political differences but when it comes to matters of national interest, whether it's atomic programme or Kashmir, the people of Pakistan stand as one."

The PML-N vice president went on to heap criticism on Prime Minister Imran Khan and accused him of "selling [occupied] Kashmir".

"Even during the eras of dictators, India didn't have the courage to change Kashmir's status," she said, referring to New Delhi's decision to strip occupied Kashmir's special autonomy in 2019.

"I heard he [Prime Minister Imran] is coming to Kotli today. I've heard that a notice on an official government paper has been sent to AJK police, saying that no members of opposition parties be allowed to attend the rally and only PTI workers should be seated. Because the fake prime minister is afraid that people will hold him accountable."

She further said that the premier's announcement to hold a two-minute silence after India repealed Article 370 of its constitution on August 5, 2019, was his government's "criminal silence" and demanded his resignation.

Praising her father Nawaz Sharif, Maryam said that the thrice-elected prime minister was the "only one" who was capable of solving the Kashmir dispute. She recalled that it was during Nawaz's rule that former Indian premier Atal Bihari Vajpayi came to Lahore and "acknowledged that Kashmir is a dispute which needs to be solved".

She also paid tribute to the Kashmiri martyrs who were killed by the Indian forces and assured the people of occupied Kashmir that "when you are hurt, our hearts are also wounded".

The PML-N leader also criticised PM Imran's foreign and defence policy, saying that his strategies had weakened the country.

"Why couldn't you get one resolution passed in favour of Kashmir on an international level? The state of your foreign policy is such that India became a member of the UNSC."

India, which is on the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for 2021-22, has been given the Taliban Sanctions Committee, Counter-Terrorism Committee and Libya Sanctions Committee.

Maryam also claimed that PML-N lawmakers were getting phone calls and being asked to support the ruling PTI on a bill to end secret balloting in Senate and went on to declare that her father and herself had clearly stated that their party will not work with the incumbent government, even if it loses seats in the Parliament.

'Modi, PM Imran on same page'

PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also addressed the gathering and slammed the prime minister, saying, "the Imran Khan who calls Modi a fascist today [...] is the same Imran Khan who prayed for Modi's victory in elections".

"This kind of incompetent prime minister not only threatens the freedom of every Pakistani but also that of every Kashmiri," Bilawal said. "We know that if Modi's fascism has to be answered, Modi's undemocratic behaviour has to be answered, then we can't answer them with fascism, we can't answer them through a puppet or a selected."

The former president's son said that the prime minister who had promised to be Kashmir's advocate is trying to become a lawyer for Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

The PPP chief likened PM Imran with his Indian counterpart, saying that the two were "on the same page".

"There (India) too, Modi has put restrictions on media and arrested his opponents especially from [occupied] Kashmir. And the puppet prime minister here, he was afraid of fighting against Modi but PPP and PMLN's female leadership was arrested immediately."

He declared that PM Imran will soon step down, adding that the "puppet government [will not be] allowed to trade away your rights or destroy the economy".

JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also spoke on the occasion and echoed sentiments of Maryam and Bilawal. He paid tribute to the Kashmiri people whose "elders decided to be loyal towards Pakistan and you are steadfast on it today".
