Important discussions at the top army conference
Generals and formation commanders participated in the conference held at the Multipurpose Complex of Dhaka Cantonment on January 25 and 26. It was presided over by Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman.
The agenda of the conference was-

The conference decided that in the future officer cadets will be sent to India and Russia on a case-by-case basis, which will depend on-

The aim of this decision is to reduce military training dependence with India and Russia. Instead, attention is also being paid to increasing training cooperation with the UK, US, China and other countries. Defense analysts believe that this is one of the first major and clear strategic decisions of the Bangladesh Army after the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government in August 2024.
According to defense sources, the decision could have an impact on military relations between Dhaka and New Delhi and Moscow. The Manpower Increase and Structural Reforms Conference also decided— Determining the future size of the total manpower of the Bangladesh Army, filling up new posts as per the proposal of the Planning Department in 2025, and making temporary units permanent.
Army Chief's Statement
Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman is expected to give a detailed statement on all these important and potentially controversial decisions. A day after the conference ends, he will visit the 66th Infantry Division in Rangpur. He will be accompanied by a lieutenant general and four brigadiers on the tour.
