5 Riverine Patrol Vessels Under Construction at Navy-Operated Dockyard Using Indigenous Technology
On 17 June 2026, the keel-laying ceremony for 5 Riverine Patrol Vessels (RPV) for Bangladesh Coast Guard was held at Dockyard and Engineering Works (DEW) Limited.

Mr Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque, Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard attended as the Special Guest.

Each RPV, measuring 38.5 metres in length, 7.90 metres in breadth and 2.45 metres in depth with a displacement of 232 tons, will be capable of cruising at 25 knots. Equipped with navigation radar, GPS, night vision and other modern equipment, these vessels will be employed in regular patrolling, anti-smuggling and anti-infiltration operations, counter-terrorism missions and rescue operations in the country's rivers, estuaries and coastal areas.

Under the Hon'ble Prime Minister's 'Made in #Bangladesh' policy, the construction of RPVs using the indigenous capability of #DEW Limited stands as a shining example of self-reliance in the defence industry and the advancement of domestic shipbuilding. The successful implementation of this project is expected to add a new dimension to the operational capability of #BangladeshCoastGuard, operated under #BangladeshNavy.

MAURIC has recently been selected to undertake the design studies for five 38-metre Riverine Patrol Vessels for the Bangladesh Coast Guard. This contract marks a further commercial success for the naval architecture firm in Asia. MAURIC and Norwegian company NORDIC NAVAL AS have been selected to supply the shipyards with the Design package together with the main equipment. The five units will be built in Bangladesh by Dockyard & Engineering Works Limited, with construction scheduled in Q4 2026.

The patrol vessels, 38 metres in length and capable of reaching 22 knots, feature a steel hull and aluminium superstructures. They will be fitted with a 30 mm remote-operated gun and can accommodate up to 29 persons on board for missions lasting up to 10 days. These characteristics make them versatile units, suited to maritime surveillance, counter-trafficking operations and the protection of Bangladeshi territorial waters.

Based on Mauric’s existing range of Coastal Patrol Vessels, which performance has been validated in real operational conditions, the proven effectiveness of these already in service- designs was the decisive factor in convincing the Bangladeshi authorities to select the MAURIC’s design.

A delegation of the project stakeholders: Ministry of Home Affairs-Bangladesh, Bangladesh Coast Guards (BCG), the, and the construction shipyards Dockyard & Engineering Works Limited was received at MAURIC's offices in Marseille, The SMM exhibition subsequently provided the opportunity for a working meeting with all programme partners.
