Can we afford it ? will they even offer their subs to us ?
Honestly idk about Japan and ROK , can we trust them in a conflict with MN ?
Latest European and Korean boats like non nuclear barracuda,212 CD,KSS-3 costs around 1 billion each. This is a normal price if you want a modern submarine.Boats like type 209 variants and s20 can never match the requirements of any modern navy.

Japan build the worlds best non nuclear subs and are cheaper than European counterparts. They'll offer them if we show interest.I see no reason for them to not do so.

personally I think it wouldn’t be a big deal. But we can ask @Gary

This question is vague, but if the question is will ASEAN go all in to militarily support one of its member? Well ASEAN didn't have any mutual defense treaty if Bangladesh were to confront one of its member.

If the question is will Japan and Korea fo anything about it, I don't think so. Probably statements here and there but that's it. And among ASEAN members itself I think the response will be different depending on the market size that these countries like Japan and their industry wish to be part of.

Other than Myanmar, only Indonesia and Thailand that has the necessary means and geography to actually sustain combat near the bay of Bengal. Others are either too far away or they don't have the means to sustain assets near Bay of Bengal.

Yeah, the thing is if Myanmar and Bangladesh get into conflict there is no practical reason for Indonesia to come at Myanmar defence.

First, Myanmar is a pariah regime.

conflict will likely to occur because of their fault.

And in that case, you can definitely expect US and EU to come at Bangladesh support politically on the international stage. Not only because 80% percent of export goes in to west but also more importantly, because of 'Myanmar/China/Russia equation'

And even if still there is an actual threat from third party to get involve in the conflict we will just give the USA Saint Martin Island ( that they were craving for many years ) and you can expect a carrier strike group to move into the bay of bengal )

Secondly, ASEAN is not a military pact anyway.

Thirdly, As far as I know Myanmar doesn't hold any meaningful political or economic value to Indoensia either.

In addition to that, after all, Indonesia and Malyasia are muslim countries. ( keep your REALPOLOTIK out of here for a second ) And religious solidarity does effect foreign policy at some extent, specially in muslim countries.

And for the same reason you can expect all Arab and Muslim countries to come to Bangladesh's support politically if Bangladesh's sovereignty under attack.

Note, If you want to reply could you take the discussion to 'history and war' thread?

More good news on the horizon!!!

From what I'm hearing, it appears construction of the operational part of BNS Sher-E-Bangla is likely to begin soon.

*The base will have facilities for fixed wing aircraft and will base MORE submarines.

*at least 6 frigates can be based at a time.

*Currently they are building the residential and adminstrative part of the base.So currently the base can only support surface ships and helicopters.

*The planned shipyard close to payra port will make "heavy warships"(ভারী যুদ্ধজাহাজ I was told) for BN in future as part of vision-2040.

Future look of KSY with the expanded area on left. Look like it'll be an open area.

Bell Dredging has successfully delivered a 36 ton class Bell Amphibious Excavator with Bell 200 dredge pump to a customer in Bangladesh.

Capable of pumping 800 m3/h of mixture, this versatile machine is also fitted with:
  • side pontoons,
  • 7-meter long spud legs and thrusters which ensures excellent maneuverability in the water.
“Bell engineers, together with our Bangladesh dealer SINGUR GROUP, commissioned the machine and gave training to the end customer, after which the handover was finalized,” the Dutch company said.

MCMV will probably come from Japan or UK.

This report is from october last year. There were other two reports in January and July in same year talks about buying old Sandown class. Even former British high commissioner indicated few days ago that we're still in talks with UK. So if everything goes same then we're getting at least two old Sandown class.

If only our leader had courage and vision......clearly Pakistan is the 1st export target.

Is this confirmed? I didn't think that Pakistan would have the money to buy larger naval ships given their economic situation and thier historic focus on the Air Force and Army.
The new Tughril-class frigate seems adequate for their needs. Thier navy will not be projecting power very far from home.
