Beside designing the hulls one of the most important aspect is local content for every parts (steel, radar, Naval gun, CMS, air search radar, engine) software, and manpower itself. Say, Indonesia had successfully assemble SIGMA 10514 in Indonesia but we deemed the program failed to answer several important question especially thing i had mentioned above.

Maritime forces from 21 Indo-Pacific partner nations including the U.S. Navy, U.S interagencies, and international organizations began the 20th iteration of Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT) in Singapore and virtually, Aug. 10.

SEACAT is a multilateral exercise designed to enhance cooperation among Southeast Asian countries and provide mutual support and a common goal to address crises, contingencies, and illegal activities in the maritime domain using standardized tactics, techniques, and procedures.

“In this region, the strength of our partnerships matter and our ability and willingness to work together is paramount,” said Vice Adm. Karl Thomas, commander, U.S. 7th Fleet. “This year’s SEACAT aims to enhance our interoperability as we address our shared maritime security concerns and preserve rules-based international order.”

The exercise scenarios are designed to encourage countries to use maritime forces to enhance understanding of the operational environment, build capacity for humanitarian support missions, and uphold international laws and norms.

SEACAT promotes shared commitments to maritime partnerships, security, and stability in Southeast Asia. Signifying the largest iteration to date, 21 nations will participate, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam.

A maritime operations center in the International Fusion Center in Singapore will serve as a centralized hub for crisis coordination and information sharing in the tracking of contracted merchant vessels simulating suspicious vessels of interests throughout Southeast Asian seas. Countries will work with all available maritime domain awareness (MDA) tools to provide cueing and contact information to another country’s operations center and maritime patrol reconnaissance aircraft or surface assets with the stated goal of enforcing international rules, laws, and norms.

“The scenarios are designed to encourage countries to work together though maritime domain awareness assets to better understand operations and adherence to international norms,” said Capt. Tom Ogden, commander, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7. “Practicing multilateral, multi-platform intercepts help our Southeast Asian partners prepare for possible real-world engagements in the future.”

For the first time, international organizations and non-governmental organizations play a role in SEACAT by providing greater understanding of the operational environment through scenario injects designed to simulate real world situations that enhance understanding and adherence to accepted rules, laws, and norms. Participants include United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), EU Critical Maritime Route Wider Indian Ocean (CRIMARIO), and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Application of Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) principles ensure respect for principles that align with accepted standards for human rights and fair treatment of women.

i am afraid the Indonesian number would be more than that by the 2030, as we are vigorously looking for deals for both newly built and used Submarine

This was originally done by Sutton in 2020 for a Forbes's article focused on Chinese sub. I guess he didn't have info about you or us. That's why local page did the edit though BN plans to operate six subs by 2030.

well no biggies actually, in 2021 renstra (Indonesian budget plan) already put 700 million US dollar budget to bought second hand submarine for interim Submarine to achieve our target of 12 Submarine forces (plus to replace the ill fated Nanggala 402), second phase MEF II programme (2014-2019) which already saw contract of three South Korean Submarine then, meanwhile we already push hard to fulfilled third MEF III contract for another three Submarine from other supplier (there is between TKMS and Naval Group as the main contender) in which i hope they can sign the deal before 2021 ended, and for 2024 to 2029 programme i got a glimpse for the Navy to push for another three to six more Submarine with more range, tonnage and lethal capability (land strike capability). Hopefully by 2030, Indonesia can have atleast between nine to 15 more Submarine at various stage of development (contract order, building stage, outfitting)

The design of Drass DG550 is based on an operational concept which makes this craft extremely similar to an SSK conventional submarine despite its compact dimensions. The unique flexibility of the Drass Design allows the Final User to configure this craft for many missions covering the entire range dedicated to a conventional submarine. The craft is designed to spend almost 80% of its life in operation, limiting the maintenance period to 20% of the life span. As a significant evolution from the smaller Drass Midget Submarines e.g. DG160 Midget, the DG550 is designed to overcome the limit of Shallow Waters (200 mt. depth) with a significant increase in endurance and dive range. Drass DG550 is fitted with a wide range of weapons and equipment:

BASELINE CONFIGURATION
  • For Patrol and Attack Missions, 4 bow Heavy-Weight Torpedoes
  • For Special Operations Missions, Commandos & Special Forces transportation & deployment with possibility to lock out up to a team of 12 with additional payload of 1 SDV (Swimmer Delivery Vehicles E.g. Drass DS Class Craft) or 2 inflatable boats.
OPTIONAL CONFIGURATIONS
  • 2 additional bow Heavy Weight Torpedoes (deployable rack)
  • 2 additional bow Light Weight Torpedoes (deployable rack)
  • Capability to transport and deploy 8 Naval Mines (Drass Neutral Mine System)
  • Other configurations are available including 20/70 mm machine guns and minor accessories
The Compact Submarine hull is composed of a main pressure hull, divided into four parts with 6 separate battery containers (pods) and a Hydrodynamic Light hull in GRP (upper part) and in carbon steel (lower part).

DRASS DG550 COMPACT SUBMARINE OPERATIONAL TASKS
Despite displacing around one fourth of a conventional diesel electric submarine, Drass DG550 Compact Submarine provides similar attack potential, able to load and launch up to 4 latest generation 533mm wire-guided Heavy Weight Torpedoes.
It has been specifically designed for the following operational tasks:
  • Attack of strategic targets in open sea by special forces operators (e.g. oil platforms and terminals, sea lines, etc.)
  • Anti-ship and anti-submarine attacks with up to 4 wire-guided Heavy-Weight Torpedoes (up to 50 km range)
  • Patrol of coastal areas as a deterrent against enemy ships and subs approaching own coastal targets
  • Intelligence gathering of acoustic, electronic and communication information
  • SDV and inflatable boat deployment for Commandos & Special Forces Operators together with intelligence missions
  • Deployment of naval mines in shallow waters / harbor mouths.
EQUIPMENT CONFIGURATION
  • Submarine Steering Station
  • Submarine Platform Management System
  • Navigation / Combat Management System
  • Passive Sonar
  • Obstacle Avoidance Sonar
  • RWR Radar Warning Receiver
  • Two Optronic Masts
  • HF Transceiver
  • UHF/VHF Transceiver
  • Underwater Communication System
  • Sound Powered Telephone
  • Intercom Network
  • INS – Inertial Navigation System
  • Echo Sounder with Sound Velocity
  • Doppler Velocity Log
  • SWR Intercept Sonar (OPTIONAL)
  • ESM, DF– Electronic Support Measure, Direction Finding (OPTIONAL)
  • Countermeasures Launcher (OPTIONAL)

At SeaFuture 2021 Leonardo is showcasing a scale model of the C27J Spartan in ASW/MPA version. On the wings: Marte ER anti-ship missile for surface warfare, and MU90 torpedos for ASW. As radar we have: Seaspray 7500 radar, EO/IR system, SIGINT/COMINT antenna, a magnetic anomaly detector MAD, and six holes in the fuselage to launch sixhty sonobuoys.

If the rumor is true then instead of thinking about ATR 72 MPA, BN should consider C-27 or C-295 based platform for it's LR-MPA which are better than ATR 72 MPA. Bangldesh Army army already operates a C-295W and will procure another. BAF will replace it's aging An-32 with either C-27J or C-295W if it doesn't go for bigger transport aircraft instead. So if the two or all three military wings operate the same platform then i could be easier to maintain the platform and maybe even possible to get a local MRO facility if we have a large fleet. Other option is SC-130J.
