Australia is essentially becoming America's forward base of operations in the Pacific, LOL.

Still Australia is recognised as a regional power.

We own Oceania.

Our military is not big compared to the rest of the region but we do have the tech and our armed forces are professionals but we are doing great politically and economically. We are important to the Asia-Pacific region. Plus we benefit from our geography.

Yes its far and away but being far also forms a natural barrier to fight off invasions. Nobody is going to bother invading a whole continent its too expensive and costly.
