Afternoon gentlefolk,

Had a question, my books, and internet search attempts are failing me on. I was curious what CASEVAC situation for the IDF during the Valley of Tears segment of the '73 Yom Kippur/October War was? Asking for this battle specifically given the gravitas of the situation made things a bit different, perhaps.

With a majority of the IDF commanders commanding their tanks with their heads/bodies exposed, if the commander was wounded or KIA what would the crews do? Did they back off their position to run the commander inside the tank to triage in the rear, then absorb a replacement or the secondary commander and head back to the front or be placed into reserve?

Or did the IDF have battlefield ambulances zipping around behind the lines to come and grab wounded/dead crew, while leaving the tanks in position to keep fighting/holding the purple line? Would they bring replacements with them sort of like a rotation system?

Some/None of the above?

Please educate me! :D

Many thanks and be well!
