Good news. All the cheap knock off by Pakistan Heavy Industries like Al-Khalid, Al-Haider or Al-Whatever were just trash to please the fanboys. In the business of war there is no room for fanboy sentiments. PA needed a new tank that would bring it up to the new millenium instead of depending on 1970s junk and Pakistani knock offs of the same junk. The VT-4 might not match the latest American MIA1 Abrams or the latest German Leopards but it will be more than capable of taking on massed Indian T-series tanks. And best of all it will be cheap, with full after sales support from the Chinese.

Pakistan’s acquisition of the Chinese new VT4 main battle tank was confirmed when the Pakistani Press Agency released a photograph showing new tanks during exercises.

On September 22, 2020, VT4 tanks of the Pakistani Army were displayed for Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa during exercises.

COAS visited Field Firing Ranges near Jhelum today to witness demonstration of state of the art, Chinese origin third-generation Main Battle Tank VT-4.

“This potent war fighting machine will be employed in an offensive role by strike formations after induction COAS said that Pakistan Army is alive to emerging challenges and regional threats,” it said in a statement. “We are completely focused towards internal and external challenges to the defense of the country and prepared with matching response against all threats to sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Pakistan. COAS lauded troops for professionalism, operational readiness and highest training standards to meet challenges of modern-day battlefield requirements.”

Field Firing Ranges near Jhelum
On my recent visit I saw these firing ranges near Jhelum. I was touring the area doing a historical study tour of the location where Alexander the Great and his Greeks fought the local ruler Porus on the banks of Jhelum River in what is known as Battle of Hydaspes. How ironic the same area where so much blood was spilled, 2,000 years later it is being used as military firing ranges with the area pock marked with artillery fire, tank tracks and armoured infantry vehicles crawling everywhere.

Then do you have an idea about 2000 years later?

any idea on the FCS on board,?????
I wish the Chinese would spent a little more time on marketing communications. It's all export-grade stuff, but a lot of it is either at-par with PLA gear or newer. The bigger question here is how the VT4 induction will shape future Pak Army armour inductions. Things may not look good moving for al-Khalid-series, tbh...

al-Khalid-series, tbh...
Bloody junk. Just focus on VT-4s and be done with it. Making tanks is not a joke. Pakistan can't even make a decent truck and you expect a miracle with tank manufacture.

I heard that Al Khalid production will be continued? All the while having a planned fleet of 1000 VT-4.

Also what engine rating does the PA VT-4 gonna use? The 1200 or 1500 one?

Al Khalid development has had twists and turns project took off in the early 90s during the free fall of the collapse of Eastern Bloc the folks at Pak Heavy Industry were making deals with Ukraine for the engines and designs from China again its been crapshoot no doubt but the Indians are no better Arjun is massive pile of junk

Failures for completely different reasons. "No better" is kind of putting things under carpet as to the serious persistent problems within Pakistan in this field.

Power group is EVERYTHING. No engine = no tank.
Designing, prototyping, testing and if all goes well, manufacturing a modern tank engine that can reliably output 1500+ HP is significantly more difficult, expensive and time-consuming than designing the rest of the tank. Especially given today's high demands of gas/diesel mileage, flex fuels, modularity, field servicability, ability to operate in hot/cold conditions, mud/high terrain, submersible river crossings. etc. It takes a team of total freaks with 150+ IQs just to draw the damn thing on paper.
