As they opted for F-35, they'll more than likely just get T-7s. But, every ambassador deserves a TAI model on their desk :)

The T-7 program is in a bit of a pickle lately. They are facing delays.
In May 2023, the Government Accountability Office released a report on the T-7 program detailing problems with the software and safety systems and other delays that saw the USAF delay the next production decision to February 2025.
There is also the fact that they're building a brand new assembly line to make these. That may also contribute to the delays.
All things considered, it might take a while for Boeing to set the assembly line and make the 351 aircraft that the USAF needs.
If we don't cock this up, we do have a chance to deliver earlier than them. That might factor into Canada's choice.

Looks like Firtina ii has lost the tender to K9 A1.
That was expected. That tender was tailor made for Hanwha re specs, financing and delivery timeframes.

Well hopefully, but first Canadian F-35 delivery is for 2026 anyway and their Hawks are pretty modern for now so they'll probably opt to wait. If they can't get T-7s, there would be a heated race. Hopefully TAI has learned its lessons from Malaysia and beats M346 and T-50. A fixed wing aircraft sale to a major NATO nation would be the crowning achievement of our defence industry exports so far, no matter the program value.

I am not sure that we will be able to export any Firtina II unless you can ensure domestic engine and such. The hassle with getting export permit should not be challenged (waste of time. It's not like these challenges are new.

Damn. Albania is one of those customer Turkiye could have pursuaded to go with CATS

Bro, BD also bought MX-15D. It is just better. Until Aselflir-500 enters mass production we will have to wait.

Obviously MX-15D is better than CATS. However, looking at Albania and their needs, CATS could have been viable if the price was attractive enough.

It is important to get these smaller customers onboarded completely on the Turkish eco-system. no need to give wealth away for free to the canadians.

The US Department of Defense announced the tender worth 45 million 643 thousand 681 dollars for the general revision of LM2500 Single Shaft Turbine Gas Generators. Looks like TEI will do the job.



Turkey's leading engine company, TEI, will perform depot level maintenance and revisions of the American Navy's LM2500 marine gas turbines.

With the agreement signed with the engine manufacturer GE Marine in 2023, TEI took the first step to become a global maintenance, repair and revision center for LM2500 engines. According to the statement made by the American Department of Defense, in accordance with the agreement that will last until October 2026, TEI will provide warehouse level maintenance and revision services for the LM2500 engines used by the American Navy during this 14-month period at TEI facilities.

Derived from TF39 and CF6-6 aviation engines, the LM2500 is one of the world's most preferred marine gas turbines with a large number of global users. With this contract, which has a ceiling value of 45.6 million US dollars, TEI has once again proven its global claim not only in aviation engines but also in aviation engine-derived gas turbine maintenance activities.

Looking at it now, LM2500 looks like the go-to engine for a lot of big navies, including us. Pretty good deal for TEI.

It is interesting to me that Japan is considering Mowag Eagle 5 (partnered with Marubeni) and Thales Hawkei(Mitsubishi) to replace its Komatsu LAV fleet. Non Japanese vehicles in Japanese army is interesting, and other interesting thing to me is that out of all the available Turkish ones, they are not interested in one. Cobra 2 and Vuran would be heavier vehicles but NMS and Amazon are well in the same weight class.
