Eni, new gas discovery in the

Eni (as the Operator of the Block) and bp (as contractor member) announce a new gas discovery in the so-called "Great Nooros Area", located in the Abu Madi West Development Lease, in the conventional waters of the Nile Delta, offshore Egypt.

This new discovery, achieved through the Nidoco NW-1 exploratory well, is located in 16 meters of water depth, 5 km from the coast and 4 km north from the Nooros field, discovered in July 2015.

The Nidoco NW-1 exploratory well discovered gas-bearing sands for a total thickness of 100 meters, of which 50 meters within the Pliocene sands of the Kafr-El-Sheik formations and 50 meters within the Messinian age sandstone of the Abu Madi formations, both levels with good petrophysical properties. In the Abu Madi formations a new level, which was not yet encountered in the Nooros field, has been crossed proving the high potential of the Great Nooros Area and the further extension of the gas potential to the North of the field.

The preliminary evaluation of the well results, considering the extension of the reservoir towards north and the dynamic behavior of the field, together with the recent discoveries performed in the area, indicates that the Great Nooros Area gas in place can be estimated in excess of 4 Trillion Cubic Feet (Tcf).

Eni, together with its partner bp, in coordination with the Egyptian Petroleum Sector, will begin screening the development options of this new discovery benefitting of the synergies with the area's existing infrastructures.

Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC, holds a 75% stake in the license of Abu Madi West Development Lease, while bp holds the remaining 25% stake. The operator is Petrobel, an equal joint venture between IEOC and the state company Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954, where it operates through IEOC Production. The current equity production of IEOC is about 300,000 boepd.

here we go again .... it was not a coup .... when 30 millions protesters are in the streets for a week ..there was a complete paralysis in the country .... and the Egyptian Army then supported them and refused to confront its own people .... unlike the Syrian army .

that was happened against Mubarak and again against Morsi .... but as we all know ... Morsi would make Egypt just a follower to Turkey Erdogan regime .... that’s why Erdogan and his fans was supporting Morsi ..

Regarding the gas discoveries .... that discovery is about 5 KM away from the shores of the Nile delta .... which is very close to the Egyptian National gas network and infrastructure .... so the development of that discovery will not cost a lot ... be it time or money.

That's cool. That discovery that you just said How long Eypgt can use it until it is completely dry ? How much gas does Egpty consume in a year ?Also can egypt drill at sea and refine its petrolium products or BP and ENI wıll take care of that ?

Egypt’s Natural gas production is 7.5 BCF/ day ... consumption Is about 6.5 BCF/day .....
and that discovery will be added to the confirmed reserves ... which will complete dry in 45 years ... if the current consumption contNiue’s and without any new discovery.

and if we added the Israeli & Cyprus reserves that will be liquified in the facilities in Egypt for export .... it can be 60-70 years without any new discovery.

regarding drilling activities ... the only sector where the Egyptian companies don’t work in it is the deep water drilling for 2 reasons:
1- technology.
2- Financial ability to take the risk of the costly drilling in deep water.

N.B
- There are Egyptian gas/petroleum companies work in Iraq and gulf and have discoveries there .
- the Egyptian company ENPI helped ARAMCO to restore its production/ refining ability after Ebqiq attacks that dropped the Saudi oil production to its half .

@Amun as you know Turkey is a very large country just like Eygpt. And at the momet we are looking for another source of energy. I was wondering in Eygpt does anyone talking about a possible pipeline to Turkey for gas ? I am very much aware of the political situation but in my opinion it will help both countries significantly. Do you see that happening in next 10 years ?

There is no regime of a person in Turkey. You dropped Turkey and followed some other countries and governments. What's your point?

Egypt is an independent country .... you can say what ever you want ... you can read articles and approaches every where about following that country or that axis .... but you have to know that deep inside Egyptians ... Egyptians in general are very sensitive to foreign interference in internal issues ...

if you are a politician and need to burn your competition you can find just a small evidence that he cooperates with foreign countries or organizations ... and he will be no longer a politician or a public figure ... and will lose his supporters...!

and I will give you 2 examples :

1- when Saudi Arabia ( our brothers and allies) asked the Egyptian Army to intervene in Yemen ... Egypt rejected that ... so KSA stopped an oil deal with Egypt .... but the situation didn’t change and oil deal continued later on.

2- although many people criticized The arms diversification policy of Egypt .... but on the other hand it is an act of independence... not to rely on one source of weapons solely.

Sorry, this isn't my understanding of independence.
