PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BAE Systems will display a broad range of capabilities during the Eurosatory defense and security tradeshow in Paris June 13-17; including combat vehicles, artillery systems, and technologies for precision strike and situational awareness.

The full size vehicles on display at outdoor stand C371 in area Pe6a are the CV90MkIV infantry fighting vehicle which was recently selected by the Slovakia Ministry of Defence as its preferred system for the procurement of Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) for the Slovak Army, the ARCHER 155mm mobile howitzer, and the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle, along with advanced guided weapon systems and situational awareness technologies.

CV90: The CV90 is combat proven and trusted and exists in more than a dozen variants for different mission sets. It is in use with seven countries and is interoperable with NATO forces. The CV90MkIV is the latest version of the tracked IFV with advanced digitized solutions for situational awareness and targeting, integrated anti-tank guided missiles, and Active Protection System for increased survivability.

BvS10: BvS10 is an armored all-terrain vehicle ideal for operations in Arctic and cold weather environments. It can traverse ice, steep mountains, and rocks, and its amphibious capability allows it to swim while operating in some of the most remote areas the planet has to offer. Its modular design allows it to be reconfigured for varying missions. The Swedish Army recently ordered 127 BvS10s and it is also under consideration for the European joint acquisition program for the Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program. Its sister vehicle, the unarmored Beowulf, is under consideration for the U.S. Army’s CATV program.

ARCHER: ARCHER is a wheeled mobile 155mm howitzer capable of initiating fire within 30 seconds of receiving an order and can depart its position in the same amount of time, giving it superior “shoot and scoot” capability by minimizing the enemy’s ability to effectively return fire. Its automated ammunition magazine stows 21 rounds, and which can be fired in less than three minutes. With guided munitions it can reach targets in excess of 50km.

360 MVP Sensor™: The 360 MVP Sensor™ system improves ground vehicles’ situational awareness, reduces crew cognitive load, and integrates easily with other vehicle protection system features – all to enhance crew response time, survivability, and mission success. It is comprised of high-definition, extended-view sensors built with BAE Systems’ 1920x1200 longwave infrared camera cores, the 360 MVP Sensor™ system delivers low-latency imagery during the day, at night, in adverse weather, and in challenging natural and manmade battlefield conditions.

Check6™: The Check-6™ rear-vision system is a camera system for ground vehicles that provides high-quality situational awareness to ground forces. The plug and play system utilizes a qualified, uncooled, infrared camera core that is embedded into U.S. Department of Defense taillights. With a universal fit for all U.S. ground vehicles, Check-6 does not require a custom mount or armor holes. This innovative solution provides a streamlined path for vehicle installation that can be accomplished as a field-upgrade kit, allowing for minimal vehicle downtime.

APKWS® laser-guidance kit: The APKWS guidance kit transforms an unguided 2.75-inch (70 millimeter) rocket into a precision-guided rocket that gives military aircraft and ground vehicles a low-cost surgical strike capability. In combat, the APKWS system has achieved over a 93 percent success rate when fired from rotary- and fixed-wing platforms. APKWS laser-guidance kits are used by four branches of the U.S. military, and are available to allied nations for ongoing combat operations via Foreign Military Sales (FMS).

Thales at Eurosatory 2022: Serving the Armed Forces Now and in the Future

  • Thales will be present at Eurosatory 2022 from June 13 to 17 (pavilion C500).
  • The Thales pavilion is organized around an immersive experience of an operational mission, from the mission preparation to its post-mission analysis, including its execution on the field.
  • Technological innovations will be presented exclusively, such as the Combat Digital Platform, the VisioLoc feature available on Sophie cameras and the new generation of fire training, Tactical Engagement Analysis.

In a constantly changing world, subject to competition between states and asymmetric threats, Thales meets all the needs of armed forces through a vision based on a global understanding of the threats, the missions to be carried out and the necessary capability challenges. Based on the four main pillars of digital technology - connectivity, big data, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity - Thales supports its customers in their digital transformation, enabling armies to stay one step ahead.
Thanks to its global vision of defense issues in the digital age, Thales has unique capabilities as an integrator and intelligence provider across the entire land domain. From smart sensors and combat systems to soldier equipment and connectivity solutions for the digital battlefield, our systems deliver information superiority and enable deployed forces to stay in charge one step ahead. Most of those solutions are “combat proven” and are engaged on a daily basis in the theater of operations.
In the form of an immersive experience, the Thales pavilion is organized into five major zones that retrace the course of a predominantly air-land operational mission: force readiness, mission preparation, command and control, combat, country and force protection.

At this event, Thales will present technological innovations that will make collaborative combat accessible and a reality today, offering forces a decisive technological advantage:
  • The Combat Digital Platform, a cybersecure platform designed to support collaborative engagements by land forces in the battlespace of the future in a unified system that allows them to understand, decide and act faster than the adversary.
  • The VisioLoc® function, embedded in Sophie Optima and Sophie Ultima thermal imagers, ushers in a new era of portable soldier optronics for high-intensity collaborative combat. This new function enables land forces to generate precise geolocation coordinates in any environment, even when no satellite signal is available.
  • This 2022 edition will be the opportunity to discover and test our Tactical Engagement Analysis solution, a new generation of firearms training that allows you to train very easily, wherever you are and regardless of the weapon you carry.
Registration for press briefings is open, to find out more about these innovations and Thales' core solutions such as air defense and protection radars, our anti-drone solutions and connectivity challenges.
After recruiting 7,000 people worldwide in 2021, Thales is stepping up its hiring policy and recruiting 11,000 employees worldwide, including 4,000 in France (permanent and fixed-term contracts). In addition to these recruitments, 3,500 internships and apprenticeships are being offered, which are key training and hiring opportunities within the Group. Candidates interested in the positions available at Thales can learn more and apply online here.
By leveraging key technologies of digital transformation, we precisely address the needs of land forces in terms of decision support, robotics, collaborative combat, data processing, intelligence fusion, and protection and resilience. Our solutions are designed to act faster and stay one step ahead, now and in the future. » Marc Darmon, Executive Vice-President, Secure Communications & Information, Thales.
Eurosatory 2022 is an event that our teams have been waiting for, as they are keen to renew this human contact with our customers. We will be presenting our latest thinking and achievements in the air-land sector, which serve a major ambition: sovereignty, security and stability. » Christophe Salomon, Executive Vice-President, Land and Air Systems, Thales.

Rheinmetall unveiled its new KF51 Panther main battle tank (MBT) concept vehicle armed with a 130 mm gun on the first day of the Eurosatory 2022 defence exhibition being held in Paris from 13 to 17 June. During the ceremony presenting the tank, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger described the tank as a “gamechanger”, combining lethality, protection, reconnaissance, networking, and mobility.

The MBT's lethality is provided by the 130 mm smoothbore Rheinmetall Future Gun System (FGS), complemented by a 12.7 mm co-axial machine gun for close defence and to counter unmanned aerial vehicles. Options include Rheinmetall's Natter 7.62 mm remote-controlled weapon station and Rheinmetall partner UVision's Hero 120 loitering munition to hit targets beyond line of sight.

The FGS can fire kinetic energy, programmable airburst, and practice rounds. The autoloader in the rear of the turret carries 20 ready rounds, compared with 15 plus 27 in the magazine of a Leopard 2 tank.

The tank's weapon systems are connected to the commander and gunner's optics and fire-control computer via the vehicle's fully digitalised NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture (NGVA), enabling it to be operated in hunter-killer and killer-killer mode supported in the future by artificial intelligence. Papperger said the KF51 had 50% greater effectiveness than current MBTs and a much longer range.

The autoloader frees one of the tank's four crew members to perform other tasks such as operating the subsystems or can accommodate a tank company or battalion commander.
