The F-86 was retired from PAF service along with the B-57 and the F-104 Starfighter in the very early 1980s due to the US arms embargo. These aircraft were replaced by the F-6 Farmer a Chinese version of the Soviet MiG-19 but with numerous Western modifications like Martin-Baker ejection seats and the early version of the US AIM9 A2A Missile. The French sold the Delta-winged Mirage III with Magic-Matra A2A Missile which saw action in the 71 war on the western front. Much later the Mirage V was also inducted in the PAF. After the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan paved the way for the F-16A/B in 1982-84 after the Reagan administration came to power.
