Is china getting ahead of Russia yet?
In many areas, yes.
In the defence industrial and aerospace sector, perhaps not.
The CAIC Z-10 attack helicopter is reported to have been designed by Kamov design bureau.
Recent purchases of S-400 SAM and Su-35 fighter jets by the Chinese are strong evidence of which country has a more advanced defence sector.
Putin also promised to provide China with an early warning radar network against ballistic missile attacks.
No microprocessor with indigenous Instruction Set Architecture from China yet, from what has been revealed.
No operating systems as of yet.
No analogue of Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles.
I suppose you get a good idea.
China is ahead, by a good margin, in civilian industry, manufacturing, savings, investment, business ties and generally, keeping its head low when the US bullied it (under Trump) or when it failed, after repeated attempts, to dislodge, dismember, devastate, eviscerate, eliminate, crush a smaller ethnically "Indian" country in the form of Republic of India.
If we compare, let's say, Taiwan and Sri Lanka since those two regions also happen to be similar in population sizes, and one of them is East Asian (ethnically Han Chinese, largely from nearby Fujian province but also from elsewhere in China) and the other is South Asian (with ethnic Tamils among them, who are fully Indian, as well as Sinhalese who share ethnic, religious, cultural and historic ties with India), I believe the results would not be favourable for the latter.
Taiwanese Investment Board/Authority
All of us may be aware of the world famous TSMC, UMC and other pure play foundries from Taiwan. Many of us may have heard of Acer, Asus, MediaTek, RealTek, Delta Electronics and numerous other suppliers in the high tech electronics sector.
Less well known may be its machinery industries clustered around Taichung, its attempts at developing aerospace, biotech, EV and other industries.
If we compare with Sri Lanka, the different could not be more stark.

The same exercise could be carried out for other countries with ethnically Indian, or related, populations and with ethnically Chinese, or related, populations at your leisure.
