What began as a way to secure myself against lockdown [all gyms were closed] because coronavirus has now turned into a long term project. I have been using a small brick outhouse as a modified gym. So far I have got various boxing gear, weights, bench press etc and recumbent exercise bike. Music has been taken care of with new speakers that can shake the foundation. This has attracted my son, nephews and brothers to join me. So we get that proper gym ambience. But the outhouse is not ideal.

As I move forward I got bigger plans. When I went to school in 1960s and 1970s having carpentry and metalwork lessons was compulsory. I really enjoyed carpentry and made tables, chairs ewtc at school. So after all these decades I have decided to build a propert dedicated gym in my garden. This will be housed in a wooden cabin. I think I have the skills to make this. I have been looking at some designs on the internet. I will be using a professionals to lay concrete foundation. After that I will do it myself. It's goona take time. The weather is not going to help but [inshallah] I will have it done by late summer 2021. So follow this thread. If you guys have anything to add in terms to suggestions for exercise regimes including even nutrition lay it out here. Or equipent that is worth buying.

You seem to have enough equipment for a house..
This is just the begining. I got elliptical trainer coming tomorrow and a commercial grade Matrix treadmil which I got second hand from a wholsale place that deals in bankrupt stock. Below where I have placed the white lines is where my new project will be built. Only the concrete foundation needs sorting out first. Already got the measuring and marking done. Just did that today. I had to rip the wife's drying line holder. Given that in UK we don';t get many sunny days anway she will have to use the drying machine.

I had to sell my equipment only my punching bag remains and even that is a thorn in their eye.. thanks to unpayable renting fees I cannot go somewhere bigger.. (I am not willing to pay 300-400 euros more just for one room extra :D )

Yeh, I noticed that in most of Europe people rent. In UK majority purchase even with help of loan from bank.
thats too much in old days people had luck but they didnt buy its their fault my dad could have baught 2 or 3 houses if he wanted or at least 5 flats

they offered him one for 20.000 but he did not want it.. and today we have to pay 100.000 for one in a street full of albanians, romanians and whatever dwells there.. and I am not talking about a big city its a little city with >20k of people

To be honest this is where I was lucky. My dad bought a house within year of arriving as a student in UK in 1960. He then upgraded over the decades. Then when I began work in early 1980s I also bought. Over the decades I bought more houses on the basis that houses will always be needed and land is finite source particularly in small island like Britain. Today the houses I bought and my share from my dad's properties is worth about £700,000. This is far, far more than everything I saved from my good salary as a lawyer in UK. The houses that were bought in 1980s for £20k are now worth in excess of £200k a 10 times increase. Easiest money I ever made. And I regularly collect rent which today affords me a very, very easy life. Almost feel guilty when I see people busting themselves. This is the single biggest advice I gave to my kids. Buy land, buy property. You will never go wrong over the long term. Never.

How much did you pay for the Benchpress? I am looking to purchasing a couple goodies aswell since the Netherlands has gone into partial lockdown once again. The gyms are still open but if things dont get better then they will do a full lockdown once more. I get the feeling people are using these uncertain times to jack up the prices so i'm kinda on the fence buying. A benchpress, Olympic Barbell and a squat rack is all i need, atleast the compound excercises would be secure.

I would suggest stick to free weights (barbell and dumbell) as far as possible rather than get too many dedicated machines etc for the strength training/maintenance aspect.

If you already got bench press...is that stand alone for bench press only or is it like a squat cage where you can also convert it to squats and deadlift as needed? Because I have one of those and its worth investing in.

Of course a dumbell regimen might be way to go to tax back and joints less...it all depends on your body capability and response....but it might be great for your younger relatives to have option to bulk up/train their legs and back that way. They often have attachments for easy pull up/chin up area too and other bodyweight based training etc.

Exercise bike is great to have, you can think of adding a rowing machine to offer a nice switch it up...and then you got the indoors cardio all covered I would say.

I put sound system and also a TV aligned there ( in my case for my cardio) For strength training part I use sound system only as you shouldnt take eyes off what you are doing compared to cardio where you can cruise somewhat.

I go to the gym twice a week. Something I started doing recently.

Regarding housing Denmark got a nice balance. Denmark has a special finance sector different than banks, so today you can borrow up to 80% of property value for less than 1% 30 year pay off. This only goes for properties like houses of course. Based on bonds.

We have a nice house 99 sqm with a basement which is not taxable. Entire property is 308 sqm, so I have a nice garden and drivein.

I an thinking of turning the basement into a man cave. Just need my wife to get rid of her excess clothes and kids toys...

BTW esp given British weather, it will be handy to design good drainage on this for rain etc that you really dont want sitting around for too long on or around a structure.

Buddy of mine made a project outhouse cpl years ago that I helped him with... and its very handy and prudent long term when you have good way to get rid of excess water from the onset.
