I know my opinion will not be popular on this forum, but I think Turkey is doing a big geopolitical mistake by insisting on a failed project (the so called TRNC).

Accusing Central Asian nations of “treason” for recognizing reality is simply wrong. Why would they sacrifice their potential economic ties with the EU for a separatist enclave that is not recognized by any other country except for Turkey?

At this point in time, the TRNC is a liability for Turkey, because it ruins any potential upgrade in relations with the EU, while offering no benefit. Turkey needs to move on, after 50 years since the Cyprus war. Why not let the Republic of Cyprus to reunite as a single sovereign state where all citizens ar equal regardless of ethnicity? This would also benefit the Turkish Cypriots, as they will be EU citizens with the many benefits that come with it. There would also be a huge influx of investment into Northern Cyprus if it would be reunited with the Republic of Cyrpus.

It is simply bad foreign policy to sabotage a EU member state for no real gain. Any potential improvement in EU-Turkish relations is held back by the Cyprus issue, which could be so easily resolved by Turkey, if only it would allow for Cyprus to reunite under equal terms (not the ridiculous proposal of the Annan Plan).

All Turkish Cypriots would be better off because they would become EU citizens, and there would be a lot of foreign investment in Northern Cyprus, while Turkey will be able to improve its relations with the EU.

Clinging onto a failed project will only damage Turkey’s geopolitical long term prospects.

Not just Turkic states, our other allies are behaving weirdly too

Qatar participated in a military exercise with Israel hosted by Greece

It is said Qatari money has also infiltrated Israel there is a scandal called Qatargate.

A lot of Turkish users also posted about how a little Qatar with so much money is infiltrating Turkish politics with a lot of politicians being under their pocket hence why Qatar bought a big chunk of Turkish lands and places.

Scary how much Money can tilt thr balance of power. Turkiye is patriotic, nationalistic with enormous potential its military is top notch but the economy is just absymal.

Turkiye's awful econony is going to get it punished in the long term with a lot of partners saying these guys are poor lets go with the USA, EU or China.

Even SK and Japan have a much better economy hence why these two countries are so great as economic partners to a lot of countries.

Turkiye really needs to get its economy fixed asap. Like all Balkan countries despite not being officially Balkan are all drowning in corruption.

I remember Erdogan saying he came to power to fight corruption instead he joined the Dark side. Corruption tastes sweet.

I just read this and want to absolutely puke. The bit about the “ridiculous proposal by Annan” is Eurocentric arrogance at its epitome.

Stating facts is now “Eurocentric arrogance” ?

Just try to look at that proposal from an impartial point of view, and you will see that it was ridiculous and meant to fail.

Really,failed project?
Do you know the history of TRNC?
Why did we intervene in the first place?
TRNC is a red line,no matter what, unification was tried many times, rejected by Southern Cyprus.
And here you are blaming it on us?
Come on man,be reasonable.

I’m not here to roast anyone… but if the shoe fits and squeaks, maybe it’s time to embrace the red nose. Just remember, not every loud performance deserves a standing ovation.

The TRNC is just a pretext. Or rather, one of the pretexts. After Ankara gives in on this issue, the EU will demand something else from Turkey. Then something else... And so on until the Second Coming of Christ :)

If Turkiye ceased to exist, those nations in time would also perish. The central Asian Turkic states for their long term survival need Turkiye to succeed, they need her to grow and become strong. Europeans couldnt do shit for Ukraine, the idea that they will do shit for Turkic nations in central Asia is a pipe dream. However, we look at this, these Turkic nations disgraced themselves and played a position that harms the Turkish Cypriots and undermines the Turkish state. Undermining the Turkish state ultimatly undermines the Turkic central asian states.

But lets put that all aside, this is yet again another hostile action taken by the EU to undermine Turkiye. We are hitting a point where it may actually be in our geopolitical interest that Russia wins the war in Ukraine. What good is it to us for Ukraine to win, then enter the EU. The EU got bigger and stronger while a rival of hers got weaker. It may actually be that Russia winning the war is bad the option, while ukraine winning is the worse option. The EU in the long term is a dangerous threat and i have no doubts if it ever creates an EU army it will first be deployed against Turkiye.

We may have to ask ourselves if the time to support Russia makes geopolitical sense.
Can we provide 500 billion worth of military and economic assistance if Russia invades say Kazakhstan? Only EU, China and the US can provide an assistance like that and right now, central asian states have none of them on their side. The only thing we can do is send some weapons and delay the invasion. Turkiye has no capacity to sustain a nation like Kazakhstan in a long, multiple-year war.

BTW GDP of Kazakhstan is 45 billion $. (2025 estimate)

Rums of Cyprus and Greece rejected unification multiple times. The Rums of Cyprus did a coup and ethnic cleansing of Turks on the island, and that is why Turkiye exercised its right as a guarantor state. Turkiye is legally obligated to defend the rights and well-being of Turkish Cypriots. The latest developments are being pushed by Israel, BTW. Similar to the remaining parts of Palestine, Sinai, and the Suwayda-Daraa provinces of Syria, Israel considers Cyprus as their lebensraum.

Neither can the EU neither will the US. None of these countries matter those those organizations and states. You all need to stop acting as if this was done to safeguard the continued existence of these countries.

Do you really think the EU will left a fucking finger to help any of these "states" when the bear turns its gaze upon them after it recovers which will happen sooner than later? You think Putin will have forgotten the insults these states have shown him and Russia because they thought Russia was weak?

What is the EU going to do against a ever more powerful China? The US is more worried about the pacific and Israel. The Pentagon won't lift even a hair to help these countries out.

Where do you guys get the idea that the EU will do anything for these countries? Or the US? They will be left as sacrifices to placate the russians sooner than later. Not even the US right now has the influence and capacity to face off against China in any other setting than the pacific but they will do so in central asia where they have zero logistic infrastructure to protect some small countries which have been under russian influence for the majority of their existence?

The EU right now can't even safeguard its own existence for the foreseeable future.

What this is is several countries who are dependent on big brother Türkiye for their continuened existence throwing out their only real alliance for a meager bribe of 12 Billion Euros. Nothing more nothing less.

The only countries this group could have leaned upon if they ever faced an invasion would have been us and pakistan. By backstabbing us they have thrown that away. After Russia gets a chunk of Ukraine the next step will be annexing parts of central asia. Have fun, I'm sure there will be thousands of volunteers greeks who will enjoy fighting in some trench in kazakhstan.

But I'm sure they will come knocking for military hardware without an ounce of shame in their face soon.

Two state solution has maintained peace on the island for 50 years.

If the Island unites, it will only be a matter of time before conflict regnites.

Türkiye can get northern Cyprus recognized, it won't happen under the AKP government (don't get me started on how bad they've been for the past year), but it will happen eventually.

Cyprus is practically a permanent aircraft carrier. If you control it, the east med is yours. It would be stupid to just give up the north. The UK still holds bases there for a reason.

Failed project? TRNC exists because greece and its proxies on the island have not one but two times in recent history tried to genocide the Turkish population bud.
TRNC exist to safeguard the lives of Turks on that island who have been there for hundreds of years.

Türkiye and Turks have nothing to give, on the other hand the other side should have been sanctioned and prosecuted for crimes against humanity several times over. Even today greeks on the island plan on killing Turks, in what kinda fantasy land do you live in? Reunite my ass, even the biased ANNA plan was rejected by the other side because they are not interested in "reuniting" they are interested in butchering Turks who have been longer on that island than they themselves, all those greek implant who have been shipped there after WW1 think they are the rightful owners meanwhile Cyprus never belonged to the greeks.

1 second after reuniting we will hear reports about Turkish Cypriots being attacked and kidnapped.

That will never happen again.

Also btw according to EU rules Southern Cyprus should have never been allowed into the EU as such it is an illegal entity inside the EU. First the EU should fix its own mistakes and punish Southern Cyprus for the crimes it has committed before calling Türkiye, who according to agreements always was allowed to intervene on the island if the safety of Turkish Cypriots was endangered, an occupying power. Funny how they have nothing to say about greece staging several coupes on the island to install fascists regimes whose only goal was to commit ethnic cleansing.

The second we give them the chance they will butcher any and all Turks on that Island and once again we will have to intervene. AKP government never had any interested in protecting TRNC, Erdogan several times was ready to sell it out for his own benefits.

Any competent government would have solved that issue long ago to the benefit of Türkiye and the Turkish Cypriots.

The terms of the Annan plan had the security of the state guaranteed by both Turkey and Greece and had provisions for equality of Turkish and Greek Cypriots under law. And this was done because Turkey learned on the basis of painful experience that the moment Greek Cypriots are given a free hand they will start butchering Turkish Cypriots without blinking an eye.

So no, it was not a “ridiculous” plan but a good one and the fact that Greek Cypriots haven’t proposed any reunification plans of their own speaks volumes how little they consider the wellbeing of TCs.

They just don't want the country to have any Turks in it smh.

If you guys looked at the crimes what the Greeks committed in Crete, Cyprus and Anatolia.

You will realise that The Greeks make Isis terrorists look like the boys scouts.

understand "race" plays into their defacto positions and prejudices. This is something i have learnt time and time again living in the UK and knowing well of many European nations.

Its not something that can be reasoned with.

Europe will provide investment development and security, and they will provide oil, gas, natural minerals (metals ores, rare earth, uranium etc). If the EU doesn't lift a finger, the EU will lose those. It is as simple as that. After Ukraine, the EU knows it can't count on Russia anymore. This is a win-win relationship for both sides and Cyprus issue is a very small price to pay. The alternative is staying poor and waiting for Russia to invade after Russia recovers from Ukraine fatigue.
