Turkiye will host an R-4 and an R-4+E-3 meeting of foreign ministers in Istanbul on October 23, the Turkish foreign ministry said on Thursday.
The R-4 group, which comprises Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye, emerged in March and has been focusing on regional security and mediation efforts between the United States and Iran.
The E-3 group is a trio of European powers — France, Britain and Germany — that was set up more than 20 years ago to advance diplomatic coordination over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Very important meeting.

Italy is now joining too. That implies to me that Libya and Eastern Med issues are going to be discussed as well.

Hope this don’t go under the radar because the Mecca Alliance is just a seasonal breeze compared to this.
I’m leaving this EU resolution that was passed on October 22 here.

“The EU should consider a naval operation in the Black Sea

Following the latest deadly attacks, MEPs say the EU and its member states should consider deploying an EU naval operation in the Black Sea, stressing that freedom of navigation and maritime security are part of securing NATO’s eastern flank, the Black Sea region and the Danube delta. MEPs further call on NATO to consider a Black Sea initiative, building on existing discussions on the possibility of a ‘Black Sea Sentry’, and they underline the importance of closer regional cooperation between Bulgaria, Romania and Türkiye.”

Montreux Convention anyone?

Bulgaria and Romania are EU members. Others can join with air ops.

And NATO MCC was established back in March in Istanbul, staffed and led entirely by Turkish staff.

Other than Romania and Bulgaria, are other EU members littoral states? And how will they arrange task forces of warships of non-littoral states? They will shift patrols every 21 days?

There will be no naval inclusion from non littoral states. I think government have been pretty solid on Montreux this past 5 years. No military ship from a non littoral nation have sailed past Beykoz since 2022, also no Ukrainian and no Russian vessel. Only 2 ex British minehunters that were bought by Romania were allowed to sail.

If the war was to end and we start the post endgame, partners to coalition of the willing would indeed send vessels as in the past under the 21 day rule.

Azerbaijan will not support Feridun Sinirlioğlu if he becomes a candidate.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its support for Lana Nusseibeh, nominated by the UAE for the position of UN Secretary-General.

Nusseibeh holds a master's degree in Israeli and Jewish Diaspora Studies from SOAS University of London (the School of Oriental and African Studies). In addition to Arabic, English and French, she speaks fluent Hebrew.

Having served as the UAE's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2013 to 2024, Nusseibeh was one of the leading diplomatic advocates and architects of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between the UAE and Israel.

Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, described Nusseibeh as a "talented diplomat". However, he stated that Israel would not take sides in the nomination process and was not officially endorsing any candidate.
