Since November 6, 2020, several French Navy ships have joined in the eastern Mediterranean to form a Surface action group.
Supported from time to time by an E3-F AWACS and an ATL2 MPA (based in Crete),this SAG's mission is to improve the assessment of the situation,reinforce France's presence in the area.
By this deployment France also wants to show its attachment to the respect of freedom of navigation as well as its ability to intervene effectively in the event of a violation of international law.
The deployed French Navy ships are ;
The anti-submarine frigate "Latouche-Tréville".
The frigate "La Fayette".
The air-defence frigate "Forbin".
A SSN could also be part of the group,but SSN deployments are kept secret from the public.
