Vahdettin has always been a weak leader and was given a collapsing empire.

There was nothing he could do to stop it from collapsing.

My biggest criticism of vahdettin is he did not grab a rifle and shoot some enemies instead he chose the easy way out. He could have easily started an uprising but nope he believed in appeasing the enemy and gave full power to his Damat who ran him like a puppet.

Some may defend him the other side considers him a traitor.

All I consider him is a leader who let us down at our worst time. If only he had some balls. Hence why he died in exile thats is the true tragedy.

Im being fair to Vahdettin but he let everybody down at the worst time in our history.

If Vahdettin died as a martyr people would be looking really different at him.

In many ways Sultan Vahdettin died with the image of a traitor and a weak leader who sold everything out.

Not a good legacy and a awful way for the Ottoman Empire to go out. Vahdettin failed the most important role that was being a leader I know he was not leadership material and cannot overturn a dead empire.

But an ounce of leadership could have really changed things. I guess you will die a hero or live long enough to see yourself as the villain.

Vahdettin failed in being a hero and died as a villain overseas. He was used and tossed into the trash.

A lot of the Turkish commanders wanted to hang him but Ataturk spared his life and allowed him and the royal family to go to exile.

Pretty honourable move from Ataturk. Even if we agree or disagree with it since we believe treason deserves no mercy.
