Apollo Go is the first platform to offer robotaxi and robobus ride-hailing services on demand in multiple cities across China, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Changsha and Cangzhou. Passengers can hail a Robotaxi with one tap on Baidu Maps, Apollo Go (a standalone ride-hailing app), or the Apollo Go mini program in the Baidu App. Apollo Go has since carried more than 210,000 passengers and plans to expand to 30 cities in the next three years. The autonomous ride-hailing services have been very well received, with up to 2,600 ride requests in a single day. In April 2021, Baidu Apollo was granted permission to roll out a robobus program in Chongqing, becoming the first company to see commercial realization of an autonomous bus project in the world .In May 2021, Baidu became the first Chinese company to offer a fully autonomous ride-hailing service under commercial operation. Running in Beijing’s Shougang Park, the robotaxis will be able to transport users to sports halls, work areas, coffee shops and hotels. During the upcoming Winter Olympics, the Apollo robotaxis will be available to provide shuttle services for athletes and staff. Remarkably, users can now hail a Baidu Apollo robotaxi without a safety driver behind the steering wheel, marking a landmark step on the road to commercialization of autonomous driving.
