We really need to rectify the cruel genocide launched in Utkala by Asoka.
Did someone stopped you from highlighting and Ashok is normally called as Chandal Ashok for reasons one of which you have mentioned above

I have nothing against him. I assume @crixus means well. As far as the discourse is civil, a little disagreement is par for course.
Man, believe me, I am the last person who wants someone to get hurt and I hate the injustices of all kinds irrespective of faith, region, religion, caste, and creed ( even historic). There is a reason I said let's agree to disagree and let court be the decision maker.
@Joe Shearer is old so no worries and I am too small to pass a statement about him ......

I think the larger point here is that everyone at some point in history would come up with some historical wrong their ancestors suffered.

To quote Lincoln, "Nearly all men can stand adversity. If you want to test a man's character give him power."

Simply because those in power can make minorities feel insecure with their false bravado, doesn't mean we must all succumb to such messages. That's my take anyway.

Exactly this is what I mean, I don't want any minority to feel insecure but at least every one irrespective of being in majority or minority can say the truth and stop presenting the arguments to shield the wrongdoings of the past. Again I am repeating let court be the decision-maker in such cases .
Ashoka was wrong when he did the Kaling massacre and butchered his own brothers to become king, I have no shame in accepting it.

Interesting video that basically states all the state/institutional power of india is held by Britian. If indeed the case, then all your problems with Pakistan is no more then a diversion, a divide and conquer tactic of the British.

Hogwash. India's founding fathers were correct in adapting the colonial platform to India. It gave a continuity to the Indian State as the direct and sole descendent of British India. A lot of reforms were incorporated not least being the end of Zamindari. Also, rearranging states on linguistic basis.

Such buffoons have no clue what they are talking about. Imagine completely negating the system. What were you going to do? If a Judgement was passed in 1946, should it be null and void in 1947? What about British appointed magistrates? What about the actual bureaucrats who literally ran the country?

The poor chap in this video is downright wrong.

I don't see what bringing Pakistan into the argument (did the guy in video do so?) is all about.

Were the British involved in any way in what the Pakistan regime at the time decided to do in East Pakistan in the end (w.r.t Pakistan ver 1.0) for example? Some British guy was whispering in Yahya, Bhutto and Tikka Khan's ears?

That continues to be the single largest geopolitical issue of consequence in the region after all, propelling in equal amounts... fear, angst and desire for revenge in the Pakistani establishment's psyche....all the while wallowing in denial.

After all what are the problems the former part of Pakistan (Bangladesh) have with (remaining) Pakistan? Is a word genocide to be taken lightly? Are these all manufactured by the British in the end?

Did the British also goad nascent Pakistan to grossly violate the stand-still agreement it had signed with the kingdom of Kashmir? (To cover the 2nd most significant geopolitical issue in region too)?

What was their role to fissure the nation along religious lines w.r.t how much (eventually) came from the muslim league (formed in what became East Pakistan....and ironically but delectably Bangladesh now).

Putting British on pedestal for this stuff excuses a far larger picture of reality.

You guys can't avoid bringing Pakistan into it can you?

Indian State as the direct and sole descendent of British India.
Bolloxe. British Raj was devolved into what is today Myanmar/Burma, India, Pakistan etc.

Ever seen Pakistan and India's birth certificate? Read what it says.

To make it easy for you to comprehend, think of it this way. There was pappa John and he had two sons. John Junior and David. Pappa died and his estate went to both of them. Just because John Junior carried his dad;s name did not give him any extra claims. Or do you think John Junior would start deluding he is Pappa John cause he shares the name?

@Jackdaws @GoatsMilk
Dominion of India assumed all debts and liabilities of British India. All.

A successor inherits both - assets and liabilities.

Anyway, I haven't mentioned Pak in this thread. I guess @GoatsMilk has. Where is he from?

The fun part was when he said we are a country of 23 million inhabitants with exports equivalent to India.

Figure being quoted in that is goods only.

Including services, India total exports are like 500+ billion a year....and Taiwan around 400 billion....but his point more or less stands.
