I agree. Can't dispute that. But can't become a single party country either - it's too much power. Indira abused it. Now Modi is. An NDA coalition or UPA coalition is needed to temper things.

2024 might see Mamata for the race. But will INC bite the bullet? She will swallow the INC from the whole and they know her. But whether she succeeds or not, India needs an strong opposition.

Not gonna happen. Already Priyanka Vadra's sons have become "Gandhis". The core is so corrupt that they cannot tolerate each other at the top. They need a common corrupt buffer to maintain that inner ring position.

I really thought post 2019 RG took an wonderful decision and someone in the party will be steel enough to take the plunge. But Gandhis made sure not to develop any mass leaders and throwing out any leader capable of challenges.

It really defies logic.

Politics is arguably the highest manifestation of the realm of irrational avowed anti-logic.

The thing is during annihilation, all parts of the party pushes back with it's all might with whatever resources available or borrow resources. This party is worried about P Chidambarsm losing his influence in inner core (he can never win his own constituency independently) or the family wants the party to protect its interest. The nation only seems to be the second priority.

Indian Railways’ big achievement towards sanitation; Equips all passenger coaches with bio-toilets

By: Devanjana Nag|
July 02, 2021 12:59 PM

As many as 73,078 passenger train coaches have been fitted with 2,58,906 bio toilets.

100 per cent of passenger coaches have been fitted with bio toilets.

Bio-Toilets in Indian Railways: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission of Swacch Bharat, Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways has fulfilled the pledge of bio toilets in passenger trains. According to the national transporter, 100 per cent of passenger coaches have been fitted with bio toilets. This has ensured that no human waste is discharged from coaches of passenger trains on rail tracks. With this effort of the Railway Ministry, around 2,74,000 litres per day of excreta on rail tracks are being avoided. Indian Railway had said that with this move, human waste led corrosion of rails and fittings costing an amount of Rs 400 crore per annum, is also avoided. As many as 73,078 passenger train coaches have been fitted with 2,58,906 bio toilets.

Further, the national transporter has planned to supplement the existing system of bio toilet with vaccum flushing system toilet (bio vaccum toilets), which substantially reduces the requirement of water for flushing, while ensuring effective flushing of fecal matter from the pans. According to Indian Railways, bio vaccum toilets have been provided in a total of 1,372 LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches and also, it has been decided to provide bio vaccum toilets in air-conditioned LHB train coaches. Besides, sanctions for 8,500 coaches are also available, Indian Railways said.

Earlier, the Railway Ministry had said that the Indian Railways Bio-Toilet project is an innovative and indigenous development of technology. According to the ministry, this technology is a first of its kind, that has been used by any rail road in the world for on-board accelerated digestion of human waste. The bio toilets’ technology has been innovated, designed and developed under the Modi government’s ‘Made in India’ initiative. It has been created jointly by Indian Railways’ engineers and Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) scientists. The adaption and deployment of the bio toilet technology in large scale has been facilitated by collaboration between RDSO, DRDO and Indian Railways’ field units.
Hope the new minister does even better than piyush goyal.
His credentials are quite heavy.

I have more or less stopped any specific, perspective-sensitive analysis on this kind of thing. It makes me melancholic...as I just see how it causes regular people to eventually hate each other and divided and weakened (to favour the power freaks) based on that.... when they should be uniting as far as possible, cognisant of their individual rights.... to keep power-freaks in check and pitted against each other.

When I mention politics being the very pursuit of the irrational, I am not applying it to just one party in one country/society. It is something that transcends to every political scape in every country.

You only need to look at the contours and context for the more (seemingly) nuanced differences.

So one party might be waxing while another wanes in the pursuit and retention of its main objective (power)....and thus you have different ways most readily available to them as to how to unleash the power psyche.

i.e the differences lie in prioritisation of disseminating this (psyche) w.r.t their own hierarchy versus commited base vs electorate closest to them vs general electorate vs others....depending on the situation they find themselves in and how they perceive having gotten there and why.

But the nature of the basic force is the same among them all.....it is vested in human ego and inevitably turns dark with time and scale of ability to entrench in whatever way.

When you have one-party state itself, these are all mish-mashed into one unholy union, but the issue does not go away, rather the darker aspect is consolidated as everything of the power-debate turns purely machiavelian in character.

Anyway, I made my peace with it all and realised what ails the human race as a whole.

Sure and true. My stinging criticism of Congress is due to my innate wish for my country to have a capable opposition to bring the ruling dispensation to book. I want a strong opposition that it should be an alternative when I vote for it. There are a lots of things INC can corner BJP right now on a lot of issues and if they play it right they have a shot at power in 2024. But we all know what's gonna happen in a way.

The way Prince is behaving , I suspect if they will be able to retain the current 44 odd seats, forget about winning in 2024.

They will get more. Whether you like it or not, NDA has bungled up the economy or the sudden lockdown or migrant crises or the second wave. The punishment meted out to ministers say it. Though I don't believe INC can win with RG as its face, background work has started with Pawar and PK to create an pan Indian alliance against BJP juggernaut. If they can convince Mamata to support it or they convince INC to make someone else PM candidate face, it's game on.

There are a lots of stuff BJP has done, but economy/development for an country like India is damn important at this point of time.

Here is what i think...

Sudden lockdown.. people have short memory. Elections are still 3 years away. still, that was the only way out. They had no options.

Economy - Mango man is least bothered till they are getting their daily needs fulfilled. Urban peeps might not know it but in rural, His work is already showing a lot. I stay in rural area and know where he is headed.

Ministers- People r happy with re shuffle and this only shores up the modi's image of no nonsense man.

PK / RAGA - Yes, they are dangerous. No doubts but pandey ji will not go & compaign in elections. He can create strategies but the moment Prince will open mouth, all will be waste .

Infra - thats been the talking points off late. Roads have inproved by leaps & bounds. Railways r ding good...

and above all, PM chair come from UP and they have Yogi there.

What do members think?

Should I keep economy+infra thread separate from the politics + news thread like it is now?

Or should they be combined into one thread (IN Economy, Politics, News) since there is lot of discussion intersection between these domains?

71% raikway tracks electrified already. On way to achieve 100% railway electrification by 2023. Possible?

I remember some IR guy telling me going above 90% is not really economically viable given nature of some of the topography where it just makes more sense to have diesel locos run....vis a vis bureaucracy and availability of contractors to do the preparation work in such areas.

But that was like 10 years ago....I think his concerns have been addressed:

Check out pages 8 onwards especially.

Hell they are even electrifying Konkan railways now...almost 50% work done. That was once thought to be the most difficult part for electrification or even doubling the tracks. Now both are done.
