I hope we continue the project but Shin here is simply wrong, both are not VLO fighters, only reduced observability. In fact the Rafale is the closest thing in its thrust range to the KF's.

my bad, EJ200 on the EF is actually the closest to the F414 powered KF. But still, its very close when it comes to capability of both.

Yes, but M88s are a bit more compact and lighter as well. In fact, Rafale's effective payload is comparable to the bigger Super Hornet, although that also has to do with Rafale's delta wings.

Like I always say, all these people coming out and interviewing some news don't mean much, as none of them are official KF-X program affiliates. It would be a different story if the program officials hold the same view though, which I very much doubt.

I'm going to assume that our viper " equivalent" won't be re-engined with F100-PW-229 like the Viper Blk 72. Just like we don't re-engined our 52ID which retain its original series 220E while supposed to be equivalent with Block 52 .

i believe that they simply wanted higher power to weight ratio.
plus if you compare the dimension, empty weight and full combat weight of Rafale, KF 21 and Super Hornet, Snecma M88 is kinda too small for KF 21

basically Rafale doing it by having a lower empty weight aka a smaller aircraft
therefor even though super hornet and rafale are having a comparable payload, in the end the rafale thrust to weight ratio is still bigger with a smaller engine
