Ford in $4.5 bln deal for EV battery materials plant

SOROWAKO, Indonesia, March 30 (Reuters) - U.S. carmaker Ford (F.N) has joined PT Vale Indonesia (INCO.JK) and China's Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt's as their new partner in a $4.5 billion nickel processing plant in Indonesia, the companies said on Thursday.

The investment is Ford's first in the Southeast Asian country and underscores growing appetite among automakers for raw materials used in producing electric vehicle (EV) batteries, which account for about 40% of a vehicle's sticker price, aiming to cut costs and close the gap on EV market leader Tesla

If the US don't want China to dominate nickel industry in Indonesia then they should invest and open factory here.

US industry and companies actually doing outsourcing jobs to the China and in turn China company invest to other countries to push down the Costs

Don't know, deep down those chain supply already established for decades and quite difficult to cut off without severe bleeding loss. No capital can't stand with such loss...

China chemical groups seek Beijing nod for $10 bln Indonesia refinery -sources

SINGAPORE/JAKARTA, April 11 (Reuters) - Two Chinese polyester fibre makers are seeking Beijing’s approval to build a $10 billion refinery and petrochemical complex in Indonesia, sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

The move comes as China ramps up talks on mega investments in Southeast Asia as part of President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative, and as Beijing limits approvals for new domestic refineries to cut carbon emissions and a fuel supply overhang.

East China-based Tongkun Group and Xinfengming Group are planning a refinery-petrochemical complex in North Kalimantan province on Borneo Island, three sources said, to produce feedstocks for chemical fiber.

Jakarta. Indonesia on Monday morning Jakarta time officially launched its Satria-1 satellite from the Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40 in Florida.
The satellite took off using Space X's Falcon 9 rocket about 17 minutes later than planned. Indonesia initially planned on sending the satellite off into orbit at 6.04 p.m. on Sunday local time or 5.04 a.m. on Monday Jakarta time.
Indonesia partners with French-Italian firm Thales Alenia Space to construct the Satria-1 satellite. According to Bakti Kominfo acting executive director Arief Tri Hardiyanto, Thales Alenia Space will make sure that the satellite runs smoothly after the launch.
"Hopefully, all of the devices on Satria-1 can run smoothly, be it the solar cell and antenna. We hope we can control it from the ground station," Arief was quoted as saying in a press statement on Monday.

Anybody could explain on what benefits we would get beside one we allready had ?

Another ABC-XYZ group's meeting network etc for top to middle layer bureaucrats to attend in their schedule in a year etc.

There can be some benefit (discussing best practices, economic coordination with some top tier economies and maybe you improve contact list that has positive spillover effect)..... but there is also opportunity cost in having bureaucrats assigned there for that time compared to some other thing they can do with another group or country etc.

Everything is relative to what strategy your deeper institutions would like to direct towards and hedge.
