QRIS Transactions Between Countries Reach IDR 1.66 Trillion
After Japan's Adoption, QRIS Trialed in China
Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded that transactions using the Indonesian Standard Quick Response Code (QRIS), which is already in effect in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, reached IDR 1.66 trillion since its initial implementation in each country until June 2025. (antara)
Supporting the Payment Industries of Both Countries
In this trial phase, BI is collaborating with the Indonesian Payment Systems Association (ASPI), UnionPay International (UPI) from China, and several payment system providers from both countries.
"This step reflects the joint commitment of Bank Indonesia and the national payment systems industry to bring Indonesia's digital payments to the global stage," said Perry.
Previously, BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta stated that the cooperation with China was progressing positively.
ASPI and UnionPay International have agreed on business, technical, and operational arrangements.
Four Indonesian switching service providers—PT Rintis Sejahtera, PT Alto Network, PT Artajasa Pembayaran Elektronis, and PT Jalin Pembayaran Nusantara—have even signed an agreement with UPI to continue system development and sandbox trials.
QRIS officially launched in Japan
In addition to the trial in China, Bank Indonesia also officially launched cross-border QRIS in Japan on the same day, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Indonesian Independence.
This means that QRIS is now available in Japan, following its availability in Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.
The presence of QRIS in these countries is said to further facilitate transactions for tourists and businesses without the need for manual currency exchange.
Bank Indonesia (BI) dan People’s Bank of China memulai uji coba sistem pembayaran lintas batas menggunakan QR Code Indonesia Standard (QRIS).
